President's Corner
Hard to believe Thanksgiving and the holidays are here already. Here is
wishing you and your family a wonderful time together. Time goes by so
fast when we are having fun and dancing and visiting friends.
Thank you to all the clubs and delegates who sent in their insurance
paperwork. This was a good year for insurance. Everyone sent their
paperwork in on time (or at least close enough). That makes my job as
insurance chairman a lot easier.
I did not receive any questions this month other than insurance. So
remember if you have a question or suggestion, send it in and we will
try to accommodate.
Happy Thanksgiving!

Editor's Note
You may not have noticed that the main Federation web page at
squaredance.gen.or.us
now has a Google search option at the top that lets you search
everything on the Federation web site, including the past online OFNs.
This is a very handy little tool.
I have received one or two inquiries about getting the OFN in printed form.
What you are reading here is just an ordinary web page, and can be printed
like any other web page. It ends up being a LOT of pages, but it can
be printed.
Still looking for someone to do a "Solo Corner" monthly column, with news
and items of interest to the single square dancer. If you are interested
let me know.
Do you have your New Year's Eve tickets yet? Lots of clubs and councils
are holding New Year's Eve dances, and they often sell out because of
their popularity.
Click here to find out how to get your
information into the OFN, including dances, lessons, photos, flyers,
advertisements, and caller/cuer information.
We have set up an email mailing list to notify people when a new edition of
the online OFN is available, and for other important news about the OFN.

The Milton-Freewater Muddy Frogs are having fun with the mainstream class with Bill Reid calling and with a good group in the jive/swing social ballroom class taught by Neva Reid.
December will bring our Christmas dance Sunday afternoon, December 20, from 3:00-5:00 at the Community Building in Milton-Freewater called by Bill and cued by Neva. There will be a turkey dinner immediately afterwards. The turkey will be furnished, so bring something good to go along with it.
December 31 will find us once again getting together with the Walla Walla Family-a-Fair club for a bang-up New Year’s Eve party, this time ending with breakfast cooked at the hall! This is always a very special evening. We hope to see you there!
Keep on dancin’!

The Central Oregon Council held a Halloween Dance on October 31st enjoying the calling of Richard Lane and cueing of Dave Cooper. The event was held in an old Grange in Alfalfa, a rural community east of Bend. Mavericks Round Dance and Sagebrush Shuffler Square Dance Clubs co-sponsored the event. Great costumes and good food made the day a special event.
The Pine Forest Grange was filled with delicious food and laughter on a recent Wednesday night when the Bachelor Beauts hosted a Thanksgiving feast for 82 Central Oregon dancers and their families. Ron Bliven, who recently retired as club caller for the Bachelor Beauts and the Swinging Mountaineers received a standing ovation as he and his wife Terry were presented with a lifetime membership in both clubs.Throughout his 50-year career as a caller, Ron has shared his good humor and love of square dance with many dancers. And, Terry has added a joyous presence at dances and lessons with her encouraging guidance as a partner on the dance floor. Hats off to a couple that has contributed so much to square dancing in Oregon!

In December we have Roger Putzler calling for us both dances. We dance the first and third Saturdays. The first Saturday of December is our regular dance with Roger Putzler calling and Christina Corelli cueing.
December 19 we are combining with Whirl-A-Ways for a special Christmas dance with Roger Putzler, Mike Kious and Christina Corelli. That should be a lot of FUN!
We are dark January 2, but a lot of us plan to be at the hall New Year's Eve to ring in 2016! Roger Putzler and Christina Corelli are putting on a Two Dollar Dance for New Year's Eve. Dancers are encouraged to bring pies. The first year they did this they had 11 squares and 33 pies!
Keep on dancing,

Single Trees had very two very successful dances with terrific guest callers in October.
Our first dance on the second Friday was called by Richard Lane. He has such a great sense of humor and calls some very interesting moves. Jackie Gale cued her best that night too. What a great combination. We had several guests in attendance from very far afield.
Our Halloween Dance was called by Scott Zinser who always calls a great dance for us. He taught us some new combinations and kept everyone on their toes. There were many crazy costumes among our guests and members. We had four winners: Sharon Hahn, our host for October, Gaynor Hintz, Janet Geiger and Shirley Marc. What happened to the guys this year?
On Oct. 31 the CCCA hosted a Halloween dance at the hall to which we made a visitation. Talk about zany costumes! Wow! There was a mystery "prisoner" there that no one seemed to know. He/she disappeared before we could find out who it was. Great fun dancing to Roger Putzler and all the other callers and want-to-be callers who had attended his latest caller school. We were all delighted to see how well Janet Geiger is doing. We may have a fledgling caller in our midst!
We are looking forward to a great dance on Dec. 11 called by Jim Voll and also to the combined Christmas Dance on the 19th which will be called by Roger Putzler and Mike Kious.

We do have an advanced class going on right now. Most of the class are experienced advanced dancers and can really help out. Or course, there are those times when the experienced dancers go the wrong way, and the new members of the advanced class helps them!
We look forward to November 21, third Saturday, when national caller, Kris Jensen, will be here to call for us. Advanced is from 3:00 - 4:30, potluck at 4:30 and Mainstream and Plus from 5:30 - 8:00. Spin Cycle Squares is famous for potlucks. We'll also have a Silent Auction. We are all encouraged to bring wonderful items for the silent auction. This will all happen in Hall B (park behind the building) at the Emerald Dance Center / 2095 Yolanda / Springfield, OR, 97477. This is a Saturday so we will not dance the following day, November 22.
Please join us almost any Sunday evening at 5:30 at the Emerald Dance Center. We usually dance in Hall A and are enjoying the new speakers.
Happy dancing,

Thank you to the Herndons for hosting the Christmas Celebration and general membership meeting December 19. Rounds with Sarge Glidewell and multi-level squares with Larry Sprout.
We had lots of good food and good fun visiting with current club members, former dancers, new dancers, and friends and family members at our Thanks~Giving Dance in November as well.
Thanks to the nominating committee, and to a group of loyal and willing members, our club has a good slate of officers to install for 2016.
Several KC members are looking forward to dancing with friends old and new at Mid-Winter....Hope to see you there.

Five squares of dancers attended the MWA Fall Festival on Oct. 31. Some dancers wore Halloween costumes and others chose to wear either casual clothes or traditional square dance attire. October was a busy month! We visited Silver City Squares on Oct. 9 and discovered the teens are a real challenge to keep up with! It’s no wonder they keep winning trophies. We brought back a really old club banner, too.
Our 'Ghoul Dance' on October 17 was our own chance to don costumes and express our inner ghoul or whoever. Finally, the MWA Dance fell on Halloween so out came the costumes again and three couples from our club attended that dance. This was a fun evening with five squares on the floor and lots of clever costumes, callers and cuers and just fun people.
We are looking forward to our December dance as we will be welcoming the MWA new dancers. Experienced clothing will also be available for purchase. Keep dancing and we hope to see you in a square, somewhere. Carmen

We work together to improve our skills and promote square and round dancing in the Mid-Willamette Valley area. We meet on the third Sunday of the month from September through May for a business meeting with education. Guests are welcome. Meetings are from 1:30 to approximately 3:30 at the Salem Square Dance Center, 3695 45th Ave. NE, Salem, Oregon 97305
The Capitol Callers and Cuers Association sponsors at least two (2) dances a year, a New Dancer Dance the third (3rd) Sunday in December, and a Spring Carnival on the first fifth (5th) Saturday in the Spring. The Club features our Association members to call and cue at these dances. Judy Russell

We were dark in November in order to be able to attend other dances, so are excited about December when we're holding our Christmas Dance and will also host a New Year's Dance. We're also looking forward to dancing in the New Year! Wishing Happy Holidays to all! Karen

The club continues to work on waltz movements to make our dancing look better and flow smoother. We have some ideas floating around for what to do after the first of the year and will discuss them soon to get information out by word of mouth so we can continue our lessons by doing something constructive with our time.
We had a good Halloween dance with lots of goodies to eat. Even had a plate of worms coming out of something brown that earned the owner their door entry money returned for a prize. The costumes brought a bunch of gangster-type people to dance with us and that added to the fun.
We will be dark on Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve, but will have a fun dance on New Year’s Eve with a flyer to come soon. Come and join us for a nice evening of dancing phase 3-4 and some easy 5’s. Dress up pretty as there will be a photo booth available to record your outfit and entry into 2016 on a good note.
We are looking forward to some good evenings of fun and friendship. Marilyn Schmit

Lessons have been going ok for us with eight students including three groups of fathers/daughters among them.
Our November dance was a bit different as we did a ham dinner instead of a turkey dinner. Those who came enjoyed the dinner and the dance.
Our youth are going to the Pacific Northwest Teen Square Dance Festival again in May. It will be in Langley BC again this year. The kids do have festival pins to sell as well as raffle tickets. The raffle drawing will be in March at their fundraising dance.
My dad (Mathew Buchheit) is turning 50 this month and his birthday is actually on our dance night (December 11). Our club is planning to tease him a bit so please come out and join us for the fun! Petrina Buchheit

Our caller Bruce Lowther fell and damaged his Rotator Cup and had to have surgery, which put him out of commission for awhile but he is recovering nicely.
November 29 we will be hosting the first New Dancers Dance for the Mid-Willamette Area (see flyer in the OFN), which is always so much fun. We will be dancing at the Eagles in Albany.

For several months, our council has been asking our domain clubs how we may help them. And it’s time for our council to let our clubs know how they may help us (and themselves.)
The Burgerville™ chain has a program wherein a club can deliver meals to tables and they will donate 10% of their proceeds to a non-profit. What better non-proft than ourselves! We would propose the club keeping half the money for themselves, and give half to our council. Few non-profits can go indefinitely without some sort of fund raising events, and this would seem to be a very generous offer. We have asked all of our domain clubs to contact their local Burgerville™.
Another of our ideas centers on our clubs’ sharing when their special dances will be, so that there are not two special dances happening the same night. Having conflicting dances takes away attendance from both dances. An extension of this would be the recent Seaside Sashay with the Country Cut-Up breakfast. This could have been avoided through more communication with our neighboring TVC council. The Evergreen Council would also need our attention so that our council is not in conflict with their Evergreen Council.
What an amazing time we had at the Rosetown Ramblers on our second visitation Nov 7th. Here is a club which had no banner! They said they didn’t need a banner because they never get any club visitations. We told them they had about six weeks to get one together before we came a knockin’ again. And come Nov 7th, they had a new club banner proudly on display. It was a great time with Gary Monday, a national caller who doesn’t get down here all that often.
We’ll have some great Christmas baskets on sale Dec 16th. Get everything from visual pleasantries to comfort food in our baskets!
It’s been a while since the Wild Cards held a dance, but we’ve booked them Dec. 30th for our Pre-New Year’s Eve Dance. Come join us and rock the night away!
The country Cut-Ups thank everyone who showed up at our pancake breakfast and helped us raise funds to keep the Boring Barn going. We enjoy the whole community of square dancers and are also grateful to those who came out to make our Halloween Dance a success. There were some great costumes and Craig Abercrombie kept it lively! We hope to see a great turn out for the New Year’s Eve Dance, also.
Our Plus dancing skills will be sharpened by workshops every Thursday evening taught by Scott Zinser. Our club has a half hour of Plus dancing at the beginning of every third and fifth Saturday dance, as well as the third tip of each dance.
We enjoyed a visitation recently to the Columbia River Dancers and have one coming up for the Tri-Squares. We welcome any clubs to come out and visit us on the first, third, or fifth Saturdays of the month. We dance all year long. For those who struggle with stairs, we are all on one level, and we have great food. The Boring Barn is a fun place to dance, in spite of the name!

With 3 scheduled dances, December will be an active month for the Happy Hoppers.
In an effort to provide our Mainstream students with some Happy Hopper floor time, on December 5, we will have a "Mainstream Splurge" dance. The format for this dance will be Plus tips from 7:00 to 8:00, and Mainstream tips for the rest of the evening from 8:00 to 10:30. Callers will be Jim Hattrick and Darrell Kalmbach; Dorothy Lowder will be cueing.
On December 19, we will have our annual Christmas dance, with all singing calls. Pre-rounds will start at 7:30, with Plus tips from 8:00 to 10:30. Jim Hattrick will be calling and cueing.
Our annual New Year's Eve dance is themed as "The Wild West". A buffet dinner will be served at 7:30. Plus tips start at 8:30. The Front Porch Trio (Jim Hattrick, Craig Abercrombie, and Adam Christman) will "bring order" to the festivities. At midnight, Jim will offer a toast to the New Year.
For the first 2 dances this month, we are re-visiting our annual Christmas Toy Drive. Please bring unwrapped toys for us to donate as presents for kids in need.
Because the first Saturday in January is so soon after out New Year's Eve Dance, we'll be dark on January 2, 2016.
We work hard to make our education program a comfortable environment for students. Many of our club members volunteer as "Angels" to help make it an easy and productive experience. We encourage beginning dancers to start introductory lessons on the first Monday of every month at 7:30. We are committed to serving both beginners and continuing students with our lesson format. Every Monday, Plus lessons will be given at 6:30, Basic lessons start at 7:30, and Mainstream lessons are available at 9:00.

Our annual all-weekend dance extravaganza on October 23-25 was a huge success. In addition to 15 hours of dancing over 2½ days, we squeezed in a harvest feast, Sunday brunch, and costume contest, including guest appearances by Mickey and Minnie Mouse and two officers from Star Trek. Yes, it was an interspecies and intergalactic gala! Thanks to all who supported our event, including large contingents from Valley Squares, Puddletown Squares (Seattle), Squares Across the Border (Vancouver BC), and Spin Cycle Squares (Eugene). Next year, we plan to hold our event on Halloween weekend, so mark your calendars for October 29-31, 2016, and watch our website for details.
On November 7, we returned to the Milwaukie Grange for a Psychedelic Dance Party. The joint was jumping as Gary Monday’s high-energy, fast-paced calling style brightened a damp and chilly evening. We were thrilled to welcome an enthusiastic group of Bachelors and Bachelorettes, who earned back a banner that our club had received at a visitation in July.
Your next chance to experience the Ramblers’ unique dance style and hospitality will Saturday, December 5 at the Milwaukie Grange from 7-9:30 pm. Our theme will be Snowflakes and Rainbows. Our caller will be the world-renowned Anne Uebelacker from British Columbia. Anne has called throughout the US and Canada, and in many other countries around the world. This is an opportunity to dance with one of the greats. We hope to see you there!

On October 31st, Halloween night, the annual Tri Council Dance was held at the Clark County Square Dance Center in Vancouver. As you may recall, that day, and night, was a rain filled adventure for any of those who decided to brave the elements. One would expect the Portland Area Council (PAC) to have the best attendance since the PAC was the host Council this year. If not the PAC then surely the Evergreen Council would have a bunch since the venue is in their back yard. But, it turns out the TVC had the greatest number of dancers in attendance at this fun packed evening called by Darrell Kalmbach and cued by Molly Combs.
The next Council event will be our annual New Year’s Eve dance on December 31st, held at the IOOF Hall, 267 East Main Street, Hillsboro, OR 97123. Doug Davis is the featured caller with Randy Lewis cueing. This is a ticket sale dance. They can be purchased in advance through TVC officers, or club delegates at each of the TVC clubs. Ticket sales are going well so you need to get yours soon. The evening will begin with a lasagna dinner at 7:30 with dancing from 8:30PM until about 12:15AM. Every 3rd tip will be Plus followed by intermediate rounds. One tip will be called after midnight. Ticket costs: $13 per person.

We are very excited to announce that we have a new Caller -- JIM HATTRICK! Jim will be calling our 4th Saturday dances and he and Mark Wheeler will continue to teach our Wednesday evening lessons. Jim is a very popular guy and in pretty high demand, so we will still have a variety of Guest Callers for our 2nd Saturday dances. We feel incredibly blessed to have snagged such an awesome Caller and Entertainer!
We had a ton of fun in October with the Toe Draggers and the Buzzin Bees. We "kidnapped" the Toes' Caller, KC Curtis, and Cuer, Bev Flint, who called/cued our first October dance. We sent the Toes a ransom note telling them we would return KC and Bev if they met our demands of sending at least 1 full square of Toes to our dance. They exceeded our demands by sending two squares and the Bees also brought a square to ensure KC's safe release from captivity, as he is their new Caller. Even though we let KC and Bev go, the Bees put out a Wanted Poster for our club due to kidnap crimes committed! They haven't caught us yet because about 2 squares of us hid at the Seaside Sashay, but we hope to be at their door soon begging for forgiveness and for our banner (we only have 1 left!). We had a wonderful time in Seaside, where our President, Dale Smith, won the Mud Wrestling contest.
Our last October dance was called by Randy Dibble, and over half of the Country Cut-ups visited us. We love the Cut-ups! What a friendly, fun bunch of folks!
Jim Hattrick will be calling and cueing our dance the Saturday after Thanksgiving. We will start with 1 hour of Plus and follow with a Basic-level dance for new dancers. Come join us as we dance off some of the calories consumed on Thanksgiving and show the new dancers how much fun we have at square dances!
We are also excited about our 1st dance in December -- a Caller that recently moved to the Salem area from Bellevue Wash., Cliff Nichols, will be calling with Debbie Combs cueing. We’ve heard some good things about Cliff, and we’re looking forward to dancing to him. We will be dark the day after Christmas but look forward to dancing on New Year's Eve with the TVC, the Hoppers, the Cut-ups, or...?

October was a busy month for us. The Sunset Promenaders welcomed twenty seven Eager Beavers on the 3rd for a visitation enjoyed by all. On Sunday October 11th, our group had the pleasure of dancing to The Crew with the Golden Squares in Woodburn. Then a bunch danced at the Seaside Sashay the following weekend. Karen and Ferrous Steinka received recognition from the stage for selling the most ribbons for the event.
December may be the holiday month but December 7th, Pearl Harbor Day, is a day to
remember for the veterans of WWII and those of us who were alive and were shocked into action. During the celebrations remember our veterans. Hope you all have holiday celebrations planned with family and friends.
As a reminder we have a new line of callers and cuers for our Monday dances. On 1st & 5th Mondays - Daryl Clendenin & Yvonne Clendenin, on 2nd & 4th Mondays - Daryl Kalmbach & Joyce Hooper, and on 3rd Mondays - Jim Hattrick.
All plus dancers are invited to dance with us on Monday afternoons: Rounds 1:00 - 1:30; Plus 1:30 - 3:15 PM, Sunset Presbyterian Church, 14986 NW Cornell Road in Beaverton.

I would just like to thank everyone who attended the Seaside Sashay. You made a very successful weekend. Also, the weather wasn’t bad either. Thanks again.
The Hoedowners began October on the 1st in high gear when a group picked up and delivered benches to the Aloha Grange to replace the old splintery ones. It has really added to the transformation of the ballroom. We can’t wait until you have a chance to attend one of our dances and enjoy the upgrade.
Some ladies were starting to frown,
From slivers and snags in their gown.
But they soon got the news
That the Grange had new pews
And they’re now free to dance and sit down.
On the 3rd of October a group of 25 Hoedowners attended the Sunset Promenaders’ Anniversary Dance. We celebrated their 30th by dancing with Dan Preedy calling and Ken Pratt cuing. The questions is did we come to dance or did we really show up for the ham dinner and those famous crescent rolls! Was it a toss-up? Heck no, the Promenaders are such a great group of friends we didn’t want to miss their celebration.
Oct 10th was our very own, first ever, Oktoberfest Dance. Was it a success? JA! It was a real “bauerntanz” that was enjoyed by all. Mike Duyck was wearing authentic lederhosen in a little longer length than you normally see, Sean Warren was wearing his Bavarian Alpine hat and Deb Olson had on a darling dirndl dress. Did you know that traditional German costumes include pettipants for the ladies? I guess that’s where square dancers got the idea. But the most spectacular part of the evening was the German feast. The delicious smells wafted up the stairs and 8 tables were full of dancers partaking of the sausage, sauerkraut, potato salad, cheese, soups, red cabbage, chocolate cake, special desserts and I know I’m leaving things out. It was a great evening. A group of 38 Hoedowners headed west for the Seaside Sashay on Oct 16th and 17th. The calling and cuing for the entire two days was fabulous. Thanks to our own Daryl Clendenin for being part of the team. This was the most successful Sashay ever. Saturday morning the weather cooperated enough for the annual dancing at the turnaround to be a success, the Seaside merchants had all sorts of games and gift certificates, even a craft sale. Saturday evening we Hoedowners got together for a lovely dinner then onto dance the night away. Our after party capped the weekend with appetizers by the fire. Thanks to the Valley Squares who joined us. We’ve found that the rain gods can be held at bay by laughter!
On Oct 24th the Monster Mash transformed the ballroom into a scene from a haunted house. The chandeliers glowed faintly while the black lights made an eerie haze. Ghosts and spiders crept about and an odd assortment of characters appeared in the gloom; zombies, Rod Stewart, Mr. Clean, a Dutch Brothers barista, a cleaning lady, skeletons, the eye woman and some other creepy types. And if you escaped to the dining room, you were greeted with smoke and fog, witches brew punch and other ghastly delights.
On the 28th, we shared a bit of Halloween fun with our outstanding New Dancers Class. A little glow, a little creepy crawly, a little Booooogie as we enjoyed hot spiced cider and appetizers to warm everyone after cold fingers had traced our spines and finally spooky treats to take home.
The Tri Council dance on Halloween had a crowd of Hoedowners. Can you believe it? The torrential downpour didn’t keep our members away, and the TVC had the most dancers in attendance.
What winter delights await us in December? Our New Dancers Jamboree will be on Sunday December 6th, 1:30 to 3:30 PM. I know we’ll be dancing to songs of the season at our Toyland Dance on December 12th. Please help us ring the Christmas tree with new, unwrapped toys for needy kids. And for our last dance of the year on December 26th it will be our Pajama Party Dance. What better way to spend the day after Christmas than relaxing in your jammies with breakfast food at break.

Our 31st birthday dance was a fun event with Randy Dibble calling and Jeanine Norden cuing. Dan decorated the cake with M&Ms (the candy kind) marking 31. By coincidence, the ice cream and the chocolate cake celebrated my birthday, too. (Even my grandchildren are older than 31.) What better way to celebrate a birthday than dancing with friends? (And dining out with family.)
All food brought to our December 19th dance will go to the Oregon Food Bank. We are hoping for bountiful of donations for the hungry.
Happy Christmas to all!

On October 9th the club was found resting up from the R Square D Annual October-Fest by having a Pajama Dance with cold cereal and milk for a snack at the break after the dance. On the October-Fest weekend, we had 93 dancers on Friday and 96 on Saturday, and we really thank all for this wonderful turnout.
Wow! What a busy month it has been; the club came to the end of the month with a Heritage Dance on the 24th of October. We had several visiting clubs including the Haylofters, Cougar Squares, Ruff and Ruffles, and the Stardust Dancers.
The club is ready for the holiday season and will have a Toy Dance on the 11th of December with toys being collected and given out where needed. We will round out December with a New Year’s Eve Dance co-sponsored with us and Ruff & Ruffles at the Catlin Grange on Shannee St. in west Kelso. We invite you to come and dance with us.

Sunset Promenaders Club had their 30th Anniversary Dinner and Dance on October 3rd. We had Dan Preedy from Spokane calling, and Ken Pratt cueing. There was a ham dinner before the dance and desserts at an open break during the dance. There were 104 dancers filling the floor. Thank you all you guests, it was a fun time.
Then on the third Saturday the Club was dark because of the Seaside Sashay being on the same weekend. The Sashay was a big success with dancers from Washington and Oregon. Daryl Clendenin and Chuck Garner were the Callers and Debbie Taylor the Cuer. The weather was “iffy” at times but turned out pretty good overall. The Festival is organized and put on by the Hayshakers of Astoria and the Sunset Promenaders of Hillsboro clubs each year. Thank you to all the dancers that came to the festival.
On December 5th we will have a mainstream dance with Mike Stout calling and Ken Pratt cueing. Then, on December 19th is the Club’s Christmas Dance with Mike and Ken calling and cueing.
The first and third Thursdays of December, 3rd and 17th, are the clubs Promenaders Plus Dances. Darrell Kalmbach and Ken Pratt are doing a great job calling and cueing. There will not be a dance on the fifth Thursday as that is New Year’s Eve and there will be a TVC dinner and dance that night.
The Sunset Promenaders wish all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Getting out on visitations sure makes square dancing a great way to meet new and old friends. We had 3 in October. The Columbia River Dancers tried to kidnap KC and Bev if we didn’t have at least 1 square of our dancers at their dance. We out did ourselves and enjoyed taking KC, Bev and their spouses home again to continue our year of dancing with the Toes.
Another unusual activity we took part in, in October, was having our lessons at Twin Oaks Air Park because our grange was busy on lesson night. Thanks Bob and Betty Stark for letting us dance around your airplane for an evening.
Come on down and join us in celebrating our Giving Thanks Dance November 6th. Dinner will be served at 6:30 PM, a spaghetti feed. Also remember our canned food drive is for the entire month of November and we would love your help to make our food barrels overflowing for families in the community that are in need.
We are collecting new toys for the month of December at both dances. Our first dance on December 4th is the all singing calls night with Rocking Around the Square. It should be a fun one and the 18th is our regular second dance of the month.
Our new students have been working hard with their lessons and are looking forward to our Holiday Square Dance Party, on Saturday, December 12th from 2 to 4 PM. We will have a delicious ham and pot luck dinner downstairs at the hall afterwards at 4:15 PM. It’s our B 51 dance and all new students and all square dancers are invited. We are having a cookie exchange for anyone that wants to bring 2 dozen cookies and the recipe in exchange for another set of cookies. Yum. See you in a square.
Tri Squares is currently on its 7th week of lessons as of November 1st. Students are working hard and looking forward to upcoming dancing opportunities. On December 5th, Tri Squares will be hosting a new dancer’s jamboree! We encourage all clubs to please bring your students. This will be a great opportunity for fellowship and floor time. The dance will be the first 51 moves. We look forward to seeing new faces at our jamboree.
During the month of December our dance dates will be on December 5th (Basic 51) and December 18th. On December 18th we will be raffling off a turkey! Make sure to show up ready to dance followed by fun and friendship! Our dance schedules starts at 7:30 PM, beginning with 15 minutes of pre-rounds and 15 minutes of plus. Then at 8 PM we will start mainstream with every fourth tip plus.
See you at the dance!

Please join us at the Aloha Grange for our dances this month. We start with the Toy Drive Dance December 5th where we ask for new, unwrapped toys, art supplies, etc. Julie Stiers will be filling in for Connie at that dance. Chuck Garner will be calling at both that dance and our December 19th Snowflake Dance when Connie returns.
Although Valley Squares was dark for October, we didn't hibernate from the dancing world. Five of us freaked out the seniors playing Bingo at the Kelso Senior Center when we showed up at the wrong venue for R Square D's Octoberfest. I guess they worried about these strangely dressed people running off with their Bingo loot. We eventually wound our way to the Rose Valley Grange, and had a great time.
An impressive contingent feasted on the Harvest Dinner and danced to national caller Dan Preedy at the Sunset Promenaders Anniversary Celebration. We had at least a square at Seaside Sashay and enjoyed a group dinner at Dundee's Bar and Grill. We also had loads of fun, lots of exercise, and multiple chances to practice All Position Dancing to national callers Chris Phillips, Mike DeSisto, and Gary Monday at Rosetown Ramblers' Scares and Squares Monster Bash Weekend. We finished the month by loading into Bill Calder's van and attending the Tri-Council Halloween Dance in Vancouver.
Our students are progressing rapidly in the Mastering Mainstream and Beginning Plus workshops Tuesday evenings at Aloha Grange. Our Basics/Mainstream lessons begin in January, so if fall students from the area clubs need extra floor time, they should join us Tuesday evenings at 7 PM starting January 12th. Also, recruit your friends and neighbors - what a perfect New Year's Resolution: Start Dancing!!!

The Wave Steppers are taking a break for the winter. The club won’t be entirely dark, however. A new round of square dance classes starts Wednesday, January 13, at the Elks Lodge in downtown Tillamook; the classes, taught by club caller Joe Wrabek, run 6-8 PM, and are absolutely free. (Joe even brings homemade cookies.)
For 2016, the Wave Steppers will be having eight dances, on the second Saturdays of March, April, May, June, July, August, September, and October. Out-of-town callers that have been approached include Jim Hattrick, Darrell Kalmbach, Mark Wheeler, and Harvey Hunsucker, and cuer Connie Clark; other dances will have club caller Joe Wrabek.
The Wave Steppers’ dances are held at Garibaldi City Hall. About two-thirds of the second floor of the building is a dance floor, built in the 1940s for the old Firemen’s Balls. The Garibaldi House hotel, half a block away, offers a discount to dancers.
October was a busy month for the Buckeroos! We enjoyed our dance on October 3rd with Dale Roberson calling. There were several squares and everyone had a great time. On October 17th, we had our Halloween Hoedown with Don Marshall calling. There were many great costumes and the barn was decorated for the occasion.
Almost two squares of Buckeroos went on a visitation to Sets in Order for their 69th birthday dance. Our own Dale Roberson was the caller for the big event. Later in the month another visitation was made to the Beachcombers in Port Orford. Ray Graves, a past Buckeroo, was calling the dance that evening. We had almost a full square. The dance had dancers of all abilities having fun together.
We are gearing up for our big wreath project in the coming weeks. This is our biggest fundraiser of the year. If you are in the area, make sure you make arrangements to pick one up!
We will be dancing on the 11th of November in the Veteran’s Day Parade in Roseburg…we hope to see you there! We also hope that you can join us for our Harvest dance and potluck on November 17th!
Happy dancing!
