Summer is eagerly waiting for us just around the corner and I can hardly wait for all that it has to offer; warmer weather, longer days and many special square dance weekends. Please consider attending at least one of these special dance events.
May 4-5 will be the Pacific NW Teen Square Dance Festival and competition at Silverton High School. Read Karyn Buchheit’s article later in this issue for more information and a schedule of events. Karyn still needs a few volunteers, so be sure to contact her if you are available to help.
May 25th is the kick off for the Charlie Brown’s annual Boatnik Festival at the Josephine County Square Dance Center in Grants Pass. This weekend dance has something for everyone, from easy Mainstream to Advance. There will also be Rounds and a Rounds Workshop. Check out the flyer in the Special Dance section.
June 8-9 is the annual Buckeroo Round-up at the Buckaroo Square Dance Barn in Roseburg. If you have never visited the Wildlife Safari in Winston, this weekend event finishes with a special benefit dance at the park on June 10. Flyers for both events are in the Special Dance section.
June 22-24 is the Oregon Summer Festival in beautiful Grants Pass. The committee has been hard at work planning many special events for us. If you have kids and grandkids that dance, be sure to bring them with you. While you are dancing, you can relax knowing your kids are having fun dancing and partying with other kids. You will find the flyer and a link to their registration form under “Summer Festival”.
July 25-28 brings the Star Promenaders’ annual Diamond Lake Festival in Medford. This will be the 45th year of dancing outside at Diamond Lake. This is a unique and beautiful setting for a dance weekend. Their flyer is on their website at: www.diamondlakefestival.com/Flyers.html
August 9-11 is Central Oregon’s annual Central Oregon Roundup in Sisters. They have many fun activities planned for your enjoyment including a Flash Mob, breakfast and a silent auction. Their flyer is in the Special Dance section.
In addition to trying to attend at of these fun filled weekends, I’d like to invite you to visit at least one new club or a club that you haven’t visited for some time this month. Don’t be shy, grab your square dance duds and go and visit – you will be glad you did. You won’t find any strangers at these clubs, what you will find are friends you just hadn’t met yet.
Until next month,
Kathy Roberts
OFSRDC President
We have information this month about the Federation's student scholarships, and about the Pacific Northwest Teen Square Dance Festival, which is going to be hosted in Oregon early in May.
I want to make a special comment about the Tualatin Valley Council. Last year, the TVC made a commitment to have council visitations to every club's anniversary dance. The council has responded magnificently; virtually all of the anniversary dances since then have had more than 100 dancers, topping out at 134 at the Valley Squares last month. It's so great to attend a dance with a full floor. Nice work, TVC!

The Pacific Northwest Teen Square Dance Festival is here! The yearly wait for the teen festival competition is over. This year’s festival is May 4th & 5th at Silverton High School, 1456 Pine Street, Silverton, Oregon. This is the 69th year that the PNTSDF has been held and only the 2nd time in Oregon.
We have 5 clubs competing this year – the Delta Sundancers from Canada; the Wesburn Wranglers from Canada; the Young Bunch from Washington; the Jacks & Jills from Washington; and the Silver City Squares from Oregon. There are approximately 150 youth ages 8-21 competing in square dancing, calling, round dancing, cueing and exhibition dancing. Some of the youth are competing in more than one division. Each division has the possibility of Pre-Teen Novice, Pre-Teen, Novice, Junior, Intermediate and Senior levels.
Friday night (May 4th) is the simple night. We start off with setting up for festival (if it doesn’t rain, we can start at 4:30 pm). There is a fun dance 7:00 – 9:00 pm. Everyone is welcome – just wear your festival pin. There will be festival pins available at the door for $4.00 each if you lost or forgot your pin! We also have Festival Committee meeting Friday night starting at 7:30 pm.
Saturday is the BIG DAY! The kids will line up for the Grand March at 6:30 am with the march actually starting at 7:00 am. Competition starts at 8:00 am in the main gym with the squares and singing calls. And at 8:00 am in the small gym with Mystery Hash for the round dancers. Cuers will be interspersed with the round dancers in the small gym. The patter competition starts at 8:30 am. Afternoon will see the round dancers performing their “compulsory” dances (these are the dances that they were required to memorize) in the small gym. The main gym will see the square Mysteries and the additional songs/patters for the higher level callers and cuers. The “Super Senior Mysteries” come just before the dinner break starting at 4:45 pm. Super Senior are adult squares put together to try to dance to a pre-recorded mystery tape. This is also a fundraiser for the festival ($100.00/square). After dinner comes the exhibition competition in the main gym – these are choreographed dances that can include an entire club and are similar to dance/drill teams. All of the round dancers get to showcase their compulsory (memorized) dances following the exhibitions. Then the “let loose” fun starts. There is a fun dance to let off steam starting at about 7:20 pm that will go for at least one hour. This is followed by another Grand March and the AWARDS.
The Silverton Elks have agreed to bring in their food booth to have food available for sale for lunch (lunch break is 11:30 am – 1:00 pm) and dinner (5:15 pm – 6:00 pm) for those who don’t want to go off of school grounds.
Programs and Festival pins will be available for sale during Festival for $4.00 each.

We have new officers for CCCA. We want to thank Linda Putzler, Sandy Harris, Gail Jackson and Christina Corelli for being officers last year. Here is our new board: President: - Pat Cox, Vice-President - Jackie Gale, Secretary - Christina Corelli and Treasurer - Gail Jackson.
.
Our March 31 dance was the annual area benefit dance for Honor Flight. Around $2,700 + was presented to Honor Flight. Thank you one and all! What a great dance. Thank you for your generosity. Several dancers wore their Honor Flight T-shirts as they had gone as chaperones or veterans. Thank you to all of our veterans for their service to our country.
Keep on dancing, calling and cueing for FUN
Christina Corelli
Secretary - CCCA
March 23 Scott Zinser came down and called for us with Jackie cueing. We always enjoy Scott’s calling and learn a few things along the way. While we did not have a big crowd out to greet him, we did have a lot of happy faces.
We lost one of our dancers this month: Lee Kelley. He passed away suddenly on March 10. He will be greatly missed for his rare type of merriment on the floor and his high spirits. I don’t think I ever saw his face without a smile on it. He was much too young. He was not the only square dancer we lost in March to cancer. Our sister club the Whirl-A-Ways lost a long standing, great supporter, Carol Smith.
On the 5th Saturday the EEAC and CCCA joined forces to put on a benefit dance for Honor Flight, the organization that helps veterans get back to Washington D.C. to see the War Memorials. We raised quite a bit of money that night which should help some vets be able to make that journey. All clubs were represented and those that attended had a great time dancing to our local callers as well as some newbies. Jackie Gale presented a newly choreographed song in honor of ‘crazy’ Lee. We thank you Jackie
We are looking forward to our May Mexican Fiesta Dance which is put on annually by Single Trees and Whirl-A-Ways. This year it will be on Friday, May 11 at the Emerald Square Dance Center with George Hermann and Mike Kious, calling, and Jackie Gale cueing. There will be a taco bar at the break around 9:15. Hope to see some out of town visitors again this year.

We continue to dance Sunday nights from 5:30 - 8:00 at all levels with our competent caller and teacher, Tim Matteson. We encourage dancers to come dance with us and get more floor time. Please call our president, David Lajoie at 541-520-7311 or Tim at 541-988-0399 to make sure we are dancing as we go dark once in a blue moon. We don't want to miss you. Our dances/classes are always casual. We always have a lot of food too. Come for a fun evening almost every Sunday!
April 10 was the annual Dan Nordbye dance. We had a small turnout, but oh my goodness, the dancers that came had a treat! Dan called a varied, new and fun program. Dan is moving to Oregon and let our dancers know. Everyone cheered. A big thank you to Lorna Mercer, Tim Matteson, Tim and Cheryl Hagey and Kathy Peters for their help with this dance. Other dancers helped clean up as well. It was a FUN dance!
Happy dancing!

March is over and it’s supposed to be Spring, but it can't seem to quit throwing that nasty white stuff at us! April showers should be good for our May flowers.
Our new dancers are practicing their skills and even visiting other clubs, something I love to do. It’s a great way to support Square Dancing and meet new friends. Clubs will be offering classes so invite someone else to enjoy this wonderful activity. Carmen
We dance on the first, third and fifth Mondays so please keep us in mind. Give me a call or text if you have questions. Happy Spring, Teija
Our 58th Birthday Dance on March 10 was a fun dance with many guests. Imagine! 58 years! What will the next 58 years hold? By press time, we will have had a Mystery Trip on April 14, our dance hall being unavailable that night. The destination is still a mystery but It is certain to have been a fun time. Speaking of fun times, we will also have enjoyed our annual Koast Krash by the time you read this.
The new Board takes office on May 1. Many thanks go to the outgoing and incoming Board members for your leadership and hard work.
We are excited that Patty Hermann has accepted our invitation to be our Club Cuer, and are looking forward to wonderful dancing under the leadership of the Hermann Dynamic Duo. Be sure to join us for our “Kentucky Derby Dance” on May 5. Ladies are encouraged to wear a dressy hat, of the sort that you see the ladies wearing at the Derby. And come dance with us at our regular dances on the first and second Saturdays at the Polk County Fairgrounds in Rickreall. Dee and Bert Mackaman
Of course, we are already preparing for our Strawberry Festival weekend -- the first weekend of June. There will be the Silent Auction, Experienced Clothing Sale, potlucks, parade, dancing, and strawberry shortcake. Our guest caller on Saturday night will be Andy Garboden from Washington -- originally growing up in Lebanon. Hope everyone is making plans to attend.
Many of our club members also went on the Coast Trip weekend sponsored by the Corvallis Squares.
On March 31, 2018, the Lebanon Square Circlers went on its Mystery Trip. We started our journey at 5:00 PM in Lebanon, then picked up other dancers from the Timber Twirlers, Corvallis Squares, and Sweet Home Squarenaders; and finally a couple from the Silver City Squares in Salem as we headed north. Our trip was planned by Frank Cawrse, with help from Wanda Frenzel, Barb Shaefer, and Marianne Cawrse. It was a lively time with lots of crazy songs, jokes and stories -- up and back. Our destination was the Kinton Grange with a great dance sponsored by the Tualatin Valley Area Council.
Our next dance will be a Bunny Hop dance with an Easter bonnet contest. Our first dance in May is the Cinco de Mayo dance with tacos served. See you in a square!
Marilyn York
Our Jive class continues until the end of the month, when Cheryl is tentatively finished cueing for us. We are a small group but we are improving on what we already know. We have “railroaded” the officers into one more year of service.
Our birthday dance is on June 14, #42. Hope you can join us in a party night of dancing to our favorites. Cross your fingers that we survive this huge change. Marilyn Schmit
Our 2nd Annual Hobo Dance was very well attended and a huge THANK YOU to Lanie Rickard for making the three delicious stews and Danny Rickard for his awesome decorations. The St. Patrick's Day dance was a fun one too. Our 52nd Birthday Dance is April 20 and elections will also be held that night for the executive board.
Our club has decided to go DARK on Friday May 4 and go as a club to dance at the Pacific Northwest Teen Festival dance from 7:00 - 9:00 pm at Silverton High School in Silverton Oregon. Our very own Kailee Shields will be competing in the novice square as a Silver Knight. We hope to see many of you there as well. The competition begins early in the morning of May 5. We will also dance on the third Friday in May.
We dance all year. And the Salem Square Dance Center is air conditioned. We have three dances scheduled for June, two regular dances on the first and third Fridays and a Plus Dance on the fifth Friday. See you all on the dance floor. Sheila Machado
Teen Festival is May 4 & 5!!!! We hope you are planning to come and watch. If you have already volunteered to help out - THANK YOU!!! For those coming, the Silverton Elks will have their food booth at the high school for those who want to catch a quick something without having to leave the school grounds. Their prices are reasonable.
On Saturday, we have two squares of our youth dancing to singing calls in the morning; one of the squares will be dancing to the "Mysteries" in the afternoon. Our youth callers compete in both singing and patter in the morning. Our cuer competes both morning and afternoon. We have two round dance couples who will do their "compulsory" dances (memorized waltz and 2-step) in the afternoon. One of the couples will dance to "Mystery Hash" in the morning. Our group will have an entry in the Exhibition category in the evening and our round dance couple will participate in the Display of Rounds in the evening. The Grand March starts early - at 7:00 am. The fun dance on Saturday will start around 7:00 pm and the Awards will start close to 8:30 pm.
Friday night fun dance will start at 7:00 pm and end by 9:00 pm - we want the kids to get some sleep since they have to get up and moving so early in the morning. Petrina Buchheit
The endeavor will help the Cut-Ups purchase a portable outdoor dance floor for the summer months, and form a lot of camaraderie for the club.
During our semi-annual meeting, we elected Glenn Hauskins, President; Gene Neils, V-P; Patricia Neils, Scty; Sue Harrel, Treasurer; Jim Schira and Mary Theirl, PAC Rep’s.

Starting in May we will be making a format change. On the first Saturday of the month we will still do our usual format with pre rounds at 7 p.m., mainstream starting at 7:30 with every third tip being plus. We dance from 7:30 to 9:30 with a break after dancing. On the third Saturday dance we will start having a Pre Plus workshop at 7 p.m. followed by mainstream at 7:30 with every 3rd tip plus. Dorothy Lowder is our cuer on the first Saturday of the month and Lonnie Sykes cues on the third Saturday. Our caller is K.C. Curtis. If you have never danced to K.C. you're in for a treat when he pulls out his harmonica! We have a great time. Enjoy the spring!
Debbie Broers
May brings our Mystery Trip and we are already sold out for the bus ride. We are combining with the Oaky Doaks this year for double the fun. We haven’t yet been able to find out where we are going, but we are sure we will have a good time getting there and dancing once we arrive!
Our Plus lessons will be finishing up at the end of the month under Scott Zinser’s able tutelage. The students are learning quickly and we are happy to have them graduate in time to come to our all plus level dance at the end of June. We are having some mainstream FunShops on Mondays through the summer with Dan Nordbye. Check out the flyer on the OFN for the exact dates.
We have a lot of fun dancing at the Boring Barn, because we take being Cut-Ups seriously!
Beverly De La Bruere
Although we dance through the month of June, May is the month when we traditionally end our club dine-outs until the next dance year starts the following September. Throughout our dance year, September to June, we usually plan a time for our members to get together in a different venue. Eating out as a group seems to be a popular way for members to enjoy each other’s company. Generally we visit a different restaurant each month, but always start and end our dine-out year at the The Old Spaghetti Factory. Last year and this year we also added one pre-dance potluck to our schedule. Who doesn’t like a potluck? It’s always great fun to try dishes prepared by club members. Usually it’s a case of so much good food that it’s impossible to sample all of it. Potlucks also give members more time to socialize than eating at a restaurant allows. Since one of the great benefits of square dancing is the fellowship we share with each other, we have found that sharing a meal together provides just another opportunity to enjoy our square dance friends.

Well, it has been a few weeks of hard work but the Oaky Doaks' Round Dance class on Thursday nights has just finished up learning how to Cha (or is that Cha-Cha?). Starting on Thursday, April 12th, we are getting ready to Rhumba. Connie Clark will be putting us through the paces just like she did with the Cha class from 7:00 to 8:30 pm. Hopefully we will be done in time for our first dance in May.
Our first dance in May, Saturday May 5th, will be our Anniversary Dance with the theme being “The Roaring 20’s”. It is the period of extreme power and happiness in America. Skirts got smaller and smaller which shocked the older generations and Jazz had developed and spread. Automobiles rolled down the streets and the US was strong and influential in the world. The flapper redefined the modern look for British and American women. It was the time of the 18th and 21st Amendments, Al Capone, Calvin Coolidge, and “The Great Gatsby” by F. Scott Fitzgerald.
Caller Mark Wheeler, aka “Nicky the Bouncer” has said that we can either square dance or sleep with the fishes. Capish? The Friend of a Friend and Speakeasy Owner, Cuer Molly “With A Twist” Combs will be bringing satisfaction to every round dancer as long as there ain’t no trouble.
Dancing starts at 7:00 with Pre-Round and Mainstream with Rounds starts at 7:30. Break will be at 9:30.
Arthur C. Clarke said, "The only way of finding the limits of the possible is by going beyond them into the impossible."
On Saturday, May 19th, we will be having a “No Theme” dance where Caller Janienne Alexander and Cuer Molly Combs will lead us into the impossible as we attempt to go beyond the possible limit of fun with square dancing.
Pre-Rounds start at 7:00 pm, Mainstream with Rounds starts at 7:30 pm and Break will be at 9:30 pm.
Hope to you see you across the square in May.
Gary
We dance every second and third Saturday at Milwaukie Community Center in Milwaukie. This allows us to dance with most other clubs . Our members enjoy going on visitations to other clubs every month. In March , 20 of us visited Columbia River Dancers in Vancouver. Since we brought over two squares, they gave us back our own banner and one of theirs. We welcome them and all dancers to come visit us . Both couples and singles are warmly welcomed. If you come see us and bring at least 8 dancers we will give you one of our banners and then bring our gang to come visit you. Last month we had visitations from BnB and Country Cut Ups. We enjoyed having them and are planning to visit them soon.
Work is progressing nicely on Summer Festival. If there are any questions, please contact either Lorri McIntosh or Elaine Funk - the Co-Chairmen.
The next 5th Friday Council dance will be on June 29th, in Grants Pass with Wayne Weaver calling and Elaine Funk cueing. Things are also in the planning stages for the next "Fountain of Youth" dance on July 6, 2018. Stay tuned for more information.
PLEASE support the Council and the clubs in the Rogue Valley. Everyone needs all the support they can get. Times are "skinny," so, please come out and help by supporting your local clubs. We don't want to lose any clubs because of non-support from the dancers.
The next Council meeting will be June 5, 2018 at Denny's Restaurant on Biddle Road at 4:30pm.
PS: Pear Blossom was a HUGE success this year - with close to 8 squares Friday and 10 on Saturday nite!! Eric Henerlau & Dan Drumheller did a fantastic job. Be sure to join us next year for 2019 Pear Blossom with Jet Roberts & Christina Corelli!
Lois & Lorri
May 5th we are excited to welcome Roger Putzler as our guest caller for our Cinco de Mayo dance. Elaine Funk will be cueing. We will have a Taco Bar at 630 prior to pre rounds!! It will be a great time - come and enjoy the festivities. May 19th will be a Mainstream & Plus dance with guests George & Patty Hermann. This is our "Salute to Our American Heroes" dance. George & Patty are great fun - don't miss this dance!
The following weekend May 25-27th is Boatnik!!!! We are so excited about this event!!! Tony Oxendine & Sharon Parker are two of the best!!! This will be a wonderful time. There is still time to get your ribbons at a discounted price. We will be doing a jet boat trip on Monday morning; contact a Boatnik committee member for the group number if you would like to go.
May 29th we will start an intensive 8 weeks program to get thru the basics of square dancing. This will be a fast paced, fun, program for those that learn quickly - or maybe you need a refresher. May 29th-July 24th 7-9. See flyer.
We are looking forward to enjoying Summer Festival here in Grants Pass, should be a great time!!!
Looking forward to June 2nd with Terry Halley & Steve Murphy. We will be dark on June 16th.
July 7th will bring international caller Bronc Wise to our hall!! This will be an amazing dance!!! We will have an advanced workshop in the afternoon. Advanced dance will start at 6pm; pre-rounds with Rikki Lobato at 730 and alternating Mainstream/Plus for the rest of the evening. July 21st will have Chuck Simpkins and Rikki Lobato for our last dance until October, as we are dark in August for the Fair & September for Labor Day and Circle N Squares birthday dance!!
Lots of great festivals and dance coming up and we are looking forward to them all.
See you in a Square!!!
There were a few of our dancers that made it up to the Pear Blossom Festival and had a great time dancing to Eric Henerlau.
We are looking forward to the many dances in May that we can go out and strut our stuff. Our next dance is the Armed Forces Day Dance on Saturday, May 19th.
See you on the dance floor.
Our July 20th dance is "Potluck Birthday Party for the United States." The caller will be Phil Ramey and the cuer will be Elaine Funk. Potluck starts at 5:30pm. See the flyer for details. This dance is for any dancer who likes a good time and for the recent graduates (both September and January classes).
We are still working on the future for the The Rogue Squares.
See you in a square!!
Carl & Lois
I am getting to see a lot of with my well-broken arm/wrist substantially supported higher than my heart and iced as needed(which seems to be all the time). So as I am happily one-handed typing this saga Pear Blossom is finishing up with the Sunday morning Sessions. I have had one call from an attendee who was having a great time. Sure hope it was a great success!!!!!
Next comes Boatnik and then Mid-summer and then Buckaroo and the Diamond Lake. WOW What a SUMMER. And there are other Festivals out there that are gleefully evading my mind right now. So have lots of good summer dancing.
Our Sunday New Dancer Class is doing well and having a great turnout. Last Sunday they had a potluck and Masquerade Dance which included a 75th Birthday party for our retiring caller. Phil did the calling and Wayne did the enjoying. It was nice to see so many people gathered to have fun!!!!!
Oh yes, Wayne is home and A1/2 classes are back on Wednesday. Thursdays have a mainstream Workshop followed by a Plus Class.
Hope to see you somewhere … Have a good Summer!!! Oh Yeah.... Picnic still on at my place on Memorial Day after noon. I can pitch horseshoes one handed so come on out and join us. Bring food to go with hot dogs and hamburgers. If you want to cook yourself something different, bring that and we will work it in on the grill. 160 Raintree Drive, Cave Junction.

The TVC 5th Saturday Spring Fling Dance, on March 31st was attended by 15 different clubs. It was held at the Kinton Grange featuring Janienne Alexander calling with Mark McDonald cueing. This dance was co-hosted by the Tualatin Timber Squares.
The next TVC event will be a very special dance with a very different format. On the 5th Saturday, June 30th, there will be a Mainstream to Advance event at the Aloha Grange. There will be mainstream, intro to plus, plus, and intro to A.

Our annual meeting was held on the 24th, before our dance with Jim Hattrick calling and cueing. Dale Smith continues as our President, Melissa James is our VP and Secretary and yours truly will be the Treasurer. We have banners out to some clubs and we have decided to make visitations in return and try to get some of those back. Overall, our membership is steady for the next year and we see black ink in the books.
We will be dancing through the summer again this year at the Grange, but as it does not have air conditioning, we wish to remind all that if the temperature is over 90 degrees at 5 PM the night of the dance, we will be dark as the hall is just too hot. We did decide on a few dates that we will be dark, but will remind everyone when they are closer.
We are pleased to have Darrell Kalmbach calling and Ken Pratt cueing at our first dance in May on the 12th. This reporter and his taw will be in Great Britain and will miss the dance. However, since the duo will be calling on April 28th as well we will get to dance to them at least once. Jim will be back to do the honors on May 26th. Our theme for that dance is to honor Memorial Day.
We continue to begin new lessons the first Tuesday of the month. If other clubs have newer dancers who would like to hone their skills, send them over. Our lessons are designed to teach to the floor level of the class. With a small group we seem to progress much faster than normal with the help of the angels who are always there to help. Jim does the beginner level from 7-8:30 and mainstream up from 8:30 to 9:00.
Nick Johnson
We started our plus classes in February and I have been amazed at how quickly our students have progressed. There are times when you cannot tell the students from the members and I think I might be one of those. Lessons are continuing until the end of May with workshops through June.
Remember Mother’s Day, May 13th. If you happen to be a mother look in the mirror and say, “I did the best I could with the information I had at the time.” Rules of parenting have changed quite a bit in the last fifty years and I am speaking from personal experience. I also ignored a lot of my mother’s advice.
All plus dancers are invited to dance with us on Monday afternoons, "Plus Brush Up" noon to 1:15 and our regular dance is 1:15 to 3:00 pm, at the Sunset Presbyterian Church, 14986 NW Cornell Road in Beaverton.
Please check for up to date information at www.eagerbeavers.info or OFN website: http://ofn.club.

What an exciting night on March 24th, the Hoedowner’s first live music dance in 10 years! Was it worth the wait?? You betcha. We called that evening our Pizza Party Dance but what a misnomer that was; live music vs pizza, which is the rarer of the two? Dave and Bonnie Harry of A-Live Sound joined Daryl on stage for an evening of live, as in folks performing actual instruments, music. Richard Lane joined in the fun too and their melodies filled the hall. An amazing 88 folks attended including Louis Klein from the Frontier Squares of Webster, TX. The floor was full as were the benches along the sides. What an animated and happy crowd! I suppose I must reference the pizza. Seems one large pizza feeds about 1 ½ squares. Tuck that bit of info away for your next trivia night. A big thank you goes out to Sunset Promenaders for their visitation and grabbing a Hoedowner banner. There was a bit of confusion and Tri Squares went home with a “vintage” Hillsboro Hoedowner banner. The details are still a bit murky at the time of this publication and probably will remain so.
What does May have in store for the Hoedowners? I’m hoping sunny skies and warm temperatures but we’ll always have the Circus Dance on May 12th and on May 26th our annual Red, White and Blue Dance honoring Memorial Day and all our Veterans. Joins us!

Shifting the scene back to Winona Grange, it seems like old times with about five squares for Randy's lessons, with dancers from many different clubs. Some dancers head for food when lessons are over, while many others stay for the dance. People, even nonmembers, have been bringing a yummy assortment of snacks, all much appreciated. Dancers who didn't come for lessons show up to dance with us.

We had a visitation the following evening with Adam calling at the Columbia River Dancers third anniversary.
Then on March 24, we held our Spring Fling Dance and Progress Center fund raiser. The Progress Center provides early intervention for developmentally delayed children 3 and under. We collected nearly $500, way to go dancers! Guest caller, Mike Stout from Hillsboro's Sunset Promenaders called a lively dance. We got a bonus when Lonnie invited Mike's wife, Julie to cue a couple of rounds.
On May 11th we will be having our Cinco de Mayo Celebration. Come a little early and enjoy the taco bar at 6:00pm. We will be dark on May 26th for the Memorial Day weekend.
For more information about us please visit our website at www.r-square-d.info or friend us on Facebook. Our caller for R Square D is Craig Abercrombie and our cuer is Lonnie Sycks.

This has been fun but exhausting in a sense, too. We are really happy to see so many people interested in learning square dance and round dance. Our club has been slowly losing members and this new wave of people is refreshing to see. Our club needs new people and we are now getting new people; WOW this is great. Hopefully we can continue to keep them involved and they will want to help us be a good square dance club.
On May 3rd, 17th, and 31st are our Thursday Plus Dances with Darrell Kalmbach and Ken Pratt calling and cueing.
May 5th is the first of our Mainstream Dances for this month with the theme of Memorial Day with Mike Stout calling and Julie Stout cueing. May 19th is our Roaring 20’s Dance with Mike Stout calling and Ken Pratt cueing.
Our schedule for each dance is Intermediate Round dance at 7:00, Mainstream Square Dance starts at 7:30 until 9:30 with a break time following. Additional parking is available at the bank across the street. The Location is IOOF Hall (upstairs) at 267 E. Main St. in Hillsboro. 503-805-5867 for information.

Bev and Harlan Flint finished up their last class of round dancing lessons. The class so enjoyed their time and are now out practicing up a storm. Thanks Bev and Harlan for a great time together.
Hope you found the April 6th dance out at the Odd Fellows Hall in Hillsboro. Our grange wasn’t available that evening but we will be back to the Kinton Grange for the rest of our dances, which brings us to our April 20th Cherry Blossom Festival Dance. Let’s get into our Spring square dance clothes for this one and come for a fun time.
May is set to go with May 4th Fillies and Lilies theme. We always like sharing about the Kentucky Derby with Bev and Harlan leading the way. They are the horse lovers of our club. May 18th is our regular dance of the month. Come join us for both dances in May with KC and Linda calling and Bev and Harlan cueing. We love our caller-cuer team and enjoy dancing with them so much.
We have a Mystery Trip planned in May and looking forward to the ?????? of what surprises are ahead of us!!!
We’ll be voting on new officers soon. Seems like this year has gone by so fast. Hope to see you in a square.

In May please join us for our "Fiesta Time" dance on Saturday the 12th, and for "Making Melody" dance (all singing calls) on Friday the 25th, with Terry Halley and Sandra Pinion.
For your planning, this summer Tri Squares will be dark in July and August, due to the heat. We’ll be visiting you!

Our lessons are coming along marvelously. Please consider coming out and joining us. We love our guests and there is always food! In May we will continue our weekly Wednesday lessons in a dance format. No standing around during long explanations. We like to kick up our heels and have fun!

Sandwiched between those dances we joined many other dancers at the Columbia River Dancers 3rd Anniversary. Adam Christman called a very lively and interesting dance. Fun was had by all. It was a large dance with a great turnout.
Our students are fast learners and had a marvelous time at the Sunset Promenaders New Dancers Jamboree on March 18th and then our Jamboree on March 20th.
Please join us for our dances May 5th & 19th at Aloha Grange.

Garibaldi is nine miles north of Tillamook on US 101. City Hall has a huge second-floor dance floor built for the old Firemen’s Balls. The club has had square dances there since the building was built in 1948.

This past month we had a visitation to the Wolf Pack dance in Eugene. We carpooled together and ended up with a nice group attending. We all got a dangle to add to our collection when it was time to go. We have been invited to help the Saint’s and Aint’s celebrate their birthday, so we may take another road trip. We love supporting other clubs and helping to get our new dancers exposed to the many talented callers around the area.
We had a great 5th Saturday dance here at the barn. We teamed up with the DC Line Dancers and had a great party. It was fun to share our love of square dancing with them, and to get to try line dancing. We are enjoying the partnership we are building with members of our community.
Lessons and workshops are moving forward and going well for us. Our current group of students are moving along quite well and we are looking forward to seeing them out on the dance floor.
Remember that we are only a short drive on I5 from both Portland and Medford. We would love to see you at the barn!
Keep dancing,
Robin P. Faltersack
