Printed 20 February 2022
President's Corner
And just like that, January is gone. Some clubs that were going to start dancing and having classes in January have now pushed those back to March or even April. Other clubs I see are now trying to get lessons going. I really hope they can be successful.
New Year’s Eve dances were canceled in the Portland/Vancouver area because of the weather when we got the snowfall in late December. Another blow to our activity. Seems like the hits just keep on a’comin’.
As president I have not been able to get out and visit clubs like I wanted to just because so many clubs are not dancing. So far, my year (well, the first 4 months), has been kind of quiet. We will have to see how 2022 pans out going forward.
Hope to see you in a square soon and…..
Let’s Get Back to Dancing
George Hermann
OFSRDC President 2021-2022

Coronavirus Update
The coronavirus situation is very fluid. The state-wide indoor mask mandate is still in effect in Oregon. As always, it is up to each individual club and facility to decide what restrictions make them comfortable. Please
honor their wishes.

Our next scheduled dance is April 30, 2022 at the hall in Springfield. We are being optimistic that COVID issues will be low enough for us to have a dance and all will be safe.
After that, our next scheduled Fifth Saturday dance will be July 30, 2022.
We want to thank all of our dancers, callers and cuers for being patient and for staying healthy and safe. It does, indeed, take a village.
Thank you one and all!
Christina Corelli
We still have not returned to dancing after quitting once again after our July dance. It is still difficult to say when that might happen. Please call our club coordinator Fred Beisse or look at our website cas-sd.yolosite.com to check if you are interested in being put on the email list he keeps to let us know or get input from the members.
Don't give up hope. It'll happen.

We held a dance on Saturday Dec.18 which included a pre-dinner potluck. The potluck was well attended considering how few people are dancing these days. George Hermann called and Patty Hermann cued as Christina Corelli came down ill at the last minute. She is doing fine. We enjoyed the dancing very much as we love George and Patty. We hope to see them back with us soon.
In February on the 26th, the normal 4th Friday for our dances, Jim Hattrick will call our birthday dance. That should be a wonderful event for everyone who wants to dance and misses seeing all their square dancing friends on a regular basis. Please pass the word so more people might come and join us on the dance floor. We start with 15 minutes of pre-rounds at 7:30, a plus tip at 7:45 and then mainstream with every third tip plus thereafter. We do not take a break and end the dance at 10PM.
We've been dancing since May 2021 and there have been no reports of anyone contracting COVID at one of our dances. Luck? Or the conscientious observance of mask-wearing, hand sanitizing and keeping a respectable distance when not in a square. Moreover our hall is very large and airy.
Keep on dancing,

The Corvallis Squares were able to hold a few dances last fall, and it was great to get back to dancing. We are looking forward to our Birthday Dance on the fourth Saturday in February, celebrating our 63rd birthday! We are also planning once again to hold a coast retreat, March 11 and 12, when we will be dancing at Gleneden Beach both Friday and Saturday nights. The past two years we have been unable to hold it and hope that all works out this time to be able to enjoy a weekend together!
We have missed seeing many of our square dance friends and wish you good health in this New Year.

We had a good December with two dances and a successful silent auction. We raised over 30 cans of decaf coffee and $284 from the silent auction for our designated charity, Windsor House. Roger and Linda Bergerson delivered the goods, with our gratitude.
Our January 1 dance was cancelled due to the Fairgrounds being rented for another event. We danced on January 8 for our only dance for the month.
Lessons are continuing at the Salem Square Dance Center. They are close to completion and we will continue with workshops into early February.
We are looking forward to celebrating our 62nd birthday in March. More information to come later.

Happy New Year to all our friends and fellow dancers.
We had a quiet December due to lessons with not a full house of dancers. Various absences for a multitude of reasons. We shut down for the December 30 lessons due to weather.
We will complete the early class of Rumba lessons about mid-January and contemplate what is next. Looking for new students to begin with, and if not enough sign up, the early class will not continue. We will go back to our regular hours of 7-9 p.m. with a continuation of Waltz 3 & 4 in the middle somewhere. There are still many moves to manage and learn to do all over again.
Randy’s contract has been extended so we are good for another few months. Come and dance with us and enjoy the friends there.
We have applied for and received the reservation for New Year’s Eve 2022. So we have a year to plan for a good evening of fun and companionship.

Although we had to reschedule our New Year's Eve Dance due to the frigid weather and snow, we had a great turnout for our New Year's Dance on January 7. Four squares on the floor beginning with Plus and continuing through the evening. We took a break at 9:00 p.m. and raised our glasses to toast the New Year. Randy Dibble kept us hopping in our squares and Randy Lewis cued a great set of Rounds. Country Cut-Ups brought a square and took back their banner. Thank you all for joining us. We got dressed up and had FUN!
We will continue with our Regular schedule of first, third and fifth Friday dances for 2022.February 4 will be our Annual Wear Red Dance in honor of Heart Disease in Women.
Hope to see you in a square.

Not much to report this month. We graduated 13 students from our Mainstream class on January 25 and several of them joined us at Mid-Winter Festival.
Pacific Northwest Teen Square Dance Festival has been cancelled again for 2022 BUT Silver City Squares and Jacks & Jills will be doing a simplified club vs. club competition instead. Details are being worked out. Watch for more information.
Since we are going to be having a type of competition and it will be at our home hall, we are fundraising to help cover food expenses for the entire group that will be in attendance. IF you attended C & P’s December 17th Dance with Ian Craig and Julia Buchheit (Caller and Cuer), thank you for making it ‘two!’ Two squares seems to be the ‘norm,’ for C&P since returning to square dance (after COVID). Although I must say our Caller, Scott Zinser, has been having some fun with such small groups. On January 7th, Chaps first dance in the 2022 New Year, Scott shook the cobwebs off a ‘sleeping’ move and reviewed ‘Up the Escalator' - watching the dance looked like a spider’s web being formed!
Some of us Chaps have been angeling the Silver City Squares MS students, in Silverton, on Tuesday nights. They flourish their moves with such enthusiasm - well, it makes me smile. They hang around, after lessons, and line dance to two or three, or four songs. These are the same dancers that will go to the Pacific NW Teen Festival in May and compete as a Club… it is so fun to see square dancing grow!
Please continue to join Chaps and Petticoats at our first and third FRIDAY dances. February 4th we dance to Scott Z. and Julie Stiers, care to make it three squares? February 18 is our FLINTSTONE dance, yes it is a costume (if you prefer) dance and both Darrell Kalmbach and Tami Helms will try to win the prizes - it will keep you entertained…join us!
Don’t forget your Valentine on FEB 14th!
Hugs,
Betty Chipps

Our 1st SSD program is in the books, with 1 graduated, and happy, dancer. Our next session of SSD starts on Tuesday, January 18th. We hope to have more new dancers join in the fun. We also had a successful SSD dance on January 7th, and everyone had a great time. We will be doing SSD dances 1x month, typically on 2nd Fridays; or as the schedule allows. Our Amateur nite on the 15th was a lot of fun, with several callers taking the stage! Everyone did a great job!
Our February dances are on the 1st & 3rd Saturdays of the month (5th/19th) with Chuck Simpkins and Rikki Lobato calling & cueing both dances. February 11th will be our SSD dance, this is a Friday and Chuck Simpkins is calling.
We are very excited about our upcoming Boatnik Festival; and have hopes that it will happen after having to cancel the last 2 Festivals. Boatnik Festival is Memorial Day weekend with dancing starting Friday nite and going thru Sunday afternoon. We also do a Jet Boat trip on Memorial Day Monday. Always a wonderful time!!! This year's talent will be Eric Henerlau & Dan (Alison) Drumheller - don't miss it!!!
We hope everyone has a wonderful time at MidWinter Festival, and see you on the floor!!

The Council did not have a meeting in December, usually held on the 4th Monday, as it was so close to the holiday season.
Last year, because of Covid concerns, the annual TVC Presidents Meeting was not held. Since the TVC Recognition award is presented at that meeting, none was awarded. The award for last year, 2020, will be presented at this years MidWinter Festival. This has been a tradition for 28 years and it is hoped that there will be many TVC club members participating at the award ceremony during the MidWinter Festival.
The next Council event will be our annual TVC Presidents Meeting to honor current and past club Presidents. Attendees will be required to abide by the current Oregon State mask mandate. One must wear a mask but will not need to be vaccinated. It will be held in the main dance hall at the IOOF Hall, 267 East Main Street, Hillsboro, OR 97123 on January 31st. We feel that the spacing between attendees will be more easily done in the dance hall rather than the dining area. The evening will begin with a meeting at 7:00. All TVC club Presidents & members are invited to join us. The TVC wishes to thank all the presidents of the TVC Clubs for volunteering their time and efforts into this activity we all love. Also at this meeting the presentation of the Tualatin Valley Council “2021 Recognition Award” for outstanding service and special contribution to the square dance community within the TVC geographical area.

Our turnout for the Christmas Day Dance on December 20th was good. There was a number of beautiful Christmas outfits making the hall look festive. We took pictures by the Christmas tree, and emailed them out. We have been averaging three squares of dancers each Monday. Sending out a big THANK YOU to our visitors and members that have been supporting our club. However we did cancel our last dance of the year due to the snow. There were concerns about our parking area being slippery.
Have you made your resolutions for the new year? Was one of them to take Plus Lessons? Please help spread the word that Plus Lessons are on our schedule starting Monday February 14th 12:00 to 1:15 pm. Come to learn or to refresh. Our regular Plus dance will be from 1:15 to 3:00 pm following the class.
We continue to require face masks or shields, along with proof of vaccination, to ensure the safety of our members and guests at both lessons and our dances. Be well be safe. Please check for up to date information at www.EagerBeavers.info
Sharing a Quote we can all relate to from our club Treasurer Mike Duyck:
"The friendships made while dancing are the gold to our lives. I think we are rich in the friends we have and those to come. I have a bad time remembering names but there are seldom dances where I can’t fine several people that already know or that I can’t get to know. I don’t know too much about them but they are also dancers because they want to be and they have made an effort to be here to have fun and also meet people."

Greetings from VS Members. Hope you are keeping warm. Our February 19th dance is full of love for square dancing and square dancers. We started our classes in January on Tuesday's. (Since classes start after this report, I'll report more in the March report.)
We lost a loved member of VS on December 24. Jeff Tefelske had a massive heart attack. We keep his wife Sharon in our prayers. They moved to Wisconsin a couple of years ago, but have been a part of our club and our hearts.
