We'll be hosting two different Thanksgiving dinners this year, so I'll have double the opportunity to indulge in turkey. As we roll into December, take care to check the weather before heading across the state. Our winter driving skills have been sitting idle for a while.

Is your closet bulging at the seams? Are you hankering to recycle some of your square dance or round dance clothes? Or, have you moved on and are no longer able to join in the festivities?
Well, Mid-Winter Festival is fast approaching. For many of you it provides an opportunity to recycle a few or many of those outfits taking up space in your closets. For others, it is a sad time when you are saying, “I just can’t dance anymore”, and you want someone else to enjoy those beautiful outfits you have received so much pleasure wearing over the years.
But first let’s look closely at some key tips to selling your clothing items at Mid-Winter Festival 2025. Follow closely the online instructions and email your list of items in by January 18, 2025.
Note: If you are having any problems completing the form online, then by all means hand write it and mail it in. We will input it to the computer for you. Please email or call Sheila for assistance.
If you snail mail your list, it must be received by January 11, 2025.
Please, read the instructions very, very carefully.
Make sure the items are clean and in good repair. Square and Round dance clothing only, please.
Bring your items, listed by categories to simplify the tagging process for you to the consignment tables. Labels will be printed in the order that you have numbered them on the submission form.
If you have sets, keep/place them together. This will help you with the tagging process and may even help them to sell.
Please, be early to consignment. Be sure to check the hours and plan on Thursday afternoon (3:00 pm) or Friday morning (9:00 am) so they will be prominently placed on the racks for the opening sales activity Friday evening.
As with so many activities it is getting more and more difficult to get volunteers to help. Resale Clothing is one of those areas that require a large number of volunteers to make it available for all the dancers.
We can no longer accept clothing items at the festival that were not listed for consignment before the input deadline. We are sorry it has come to this. But we hope you will utilize the online submission process. Or you can hand write it and send it to us. Just print out the input/submission sheet for completion by hand. We want to help you recycle the many beautiful outfits that you all have.
As I said earlier, we require a large number of volunteers to assist during consignment and sale hours. We will accept any help, even if for just one (1) hour. So, contact the chair for Resale Clothing – Sheila - and let her know you want to help.
Don’t forget to pick up your returns by 10:00 a.m. on Sunday morning.
For assistance contact the following individual -- preferably by email.
Sheila Machado at sheilainsalem@hotmail.com or if you must call my phone at 503-884-0158.
Jaren Reed Foultner, “The Lad,” was born March 27,2012 and he left this life unexpectedly October 27,2024.
The Foultner Family are members of the Lebanon Square Circlers.
Shawn,Sarah,Lithia and Wesley,Hope,Tamara and Ruth are missing him like crazy; and so do all the people who knew him.💔
Jaren was funny, kind, creative and just such a delight- he enjoyed reading, singing, building/creating, cooking, playing games, doing puzzles, hosting people in the family home, being outside, camping, fishing, hunting, and playing sport. Wrestling and baseball were his favorites. Ironically, Jaren did not love square dancing but he was taking lessons with his family anyway.
Jaren did love Jesus, his friends and his family- he was planning to coach his nephews baseball team,as soon as Wes was old enough to play.
Jaren has left a huge hole in our family and our community- we will miss him always.

We have a short business meeting before our last dances which began at 7:00 with Pre-Rounds and then from 7:30 to 9:30 we had our square and round dance. The dances are called and cued by members of CCCA.
Respectfully submitted,
Christina Corelli
We dance in Hall B of the Emerald Square Dance Center at 2095 Yolanda. Hall B is located behind the big building with parking behind as well as in front. Right now Roger Putzler has his beginning square dance group in Hall A from 1 to 3 and a plus class from 3 to 4PM so please go around to the rear entrance for advanced.
Our dances are to recorded tips so when a problem arises we ca go back and review easily. We get to dance to national callers like Bronc Wise and Darryl Lipscomb who have been kind enough to allow us to dance to their recordings. Such fun!
We normally only have one square these days, but Fred keeps the tips short so that people get to rotate in fairly quickly. Our dancers come from around the southern Willamette Valley but on occasion we are lucky and have visitors from further afield. Since we are such a small group there are occasions when we cannot muster a square, in which case we cancel. It is best to get on Fred’s email list so you get notified, but you can always call ahead to make sure we are dancing (458-221-3564 or 541-741-4149).
In December we hope to have dances on the 15th and 22nd. We may only get one dance in January as the 4th weekend is Mid-Winter Festival and we’ll be dancing up there in Albany.
Hope to see some of you advanced dancers come join us one of these days.
Gaynor Hintz

Our October dances were fun but small. Even our Halloween dance, which is normally well attended because so many want to see what costumes people came up with, only had two squares on the floor with extras sitting around eating and talking. Our newer dancers were out in costume and Janice Sugar won one of the prizes (see photo in photo section). Dick from Roseburg came as Batman and also won a prize.
We are looking forward to the Christmas season when our hall gets glitzed up to the hilt. We (the hall) will be decorating on Nov. 30 from 12:30 to 4:30 (or so). There will be much to do so if you are available, please come out and enjoy the camaraderie while making our hall festive and gay.
On Nov. 23 (a Saturday) at 1 pm a memorial service/ celebration of life will be held at our hall for Judy Melendrez who passed away in September after a brave battle with cancer. Judy danced with Single Trees for nearly 25 years and was always a delight to have in a square or watch on the round dance floor. She loved to dance and made everyone around her feel her special energy. We are missing you, Judy!
On Dec. 20 Single Trees will have its annual Christmas Dinner and Dance. Our president will be bringing the ham along with rice and gravy, and everyone else will provide side dishes and desserts. We start gathering at 6 and sit down when all is assembled. The dance starts at 7:30 as usual with plus and then 15 minutes of pre-rounds until 8 when mainstream with every 3rd tip plus and rounds in between starts. Darrell Kalmbach will be calling and Christina Corelli will be cueing so it will be a very special dance and very festive to boot.
In January on the 10th we will host a new dancer dance. We do not know who will be calling yet, but it is sure to be fun. The new dancers are expected to graduate at the end of January so will be fairly far long. Please mark your calendars for these events and come join us.
Happy Holidays, to all,
Gaynor Hintz
We enjoy dancers from other clubs who join us from time to time. Please come and join us from 4 to 6 on Sundays. It’s casual dress always. There is a plus class from 3:00 to 4:00 so there is a little overlap which means we can mingle and meet other dancers and encourage them to stay and dance with us!
Please call our president, David Lajoie at 541-520-7311 to make sure we are, indeed, dancing. We rarely go dark, but it's still best to make sure.
Christina Corelli
We look forward to our holiday dance December 21. Our hall is usually decorated so beautifully for the holidays. A lot of work is done by everyone, but especially by Melba Walker of Single Trees.
Whirl-A-Ways will visit Spin Cycle Squares in the near future. They dance Sundays from 4:00 – 6:00.
Please come join us the third Saturday in each month!
Happy dancing!
Christina Corelli
The list of New Dancer Dances was recently sent to the callers and cuers in our area so they would know when and where the dances are and at what time. The members are always ready to help with questions that others may have. You can find our contact information on our website, www.ccca-or.org.

We began our new season with a tasty theme, Banana Split Dance, on September 28. With Shaun McKamey calling and Sandy Harris cueing, we had an enjoyable dance. We appreciated our visitors from Lebanon, Sweet Home, and Salem Swinging Stars. The real fun came when Shaun tried calling plus with a six-sided square, which went smoothly until one call got the dancers so tangled they were laughing as Shaun said, “We won’t try that one again.” The banana splits disappeared quickly and were much appreciated by all that attended.
October 12 was October Fest with Sandy Harris as caller and cuer. October 26 is our Halloween Dance with caller Roger Putzler and cuer Jacki Gale. We are dark November 9 for a visitation to Sweet Home’s Veterans’ Day dance. November 23 is our Friendsgiving Dance celebrating the beginning of the holidays season with caller Roger Putzler and cuer Jackie Gale. Our only December dance is a potluck on December 14. Graig Abercrombie is caller and cuer.
New Dancer lessons began on September 26. Having the first lesson free seemed to have worked. We had five squares, counting angels and new students. Everyone had a fun time and most did sign up for lessons. I like dancing weekly, meeting interesting new people, helping others learn the calls, and exercising. Even though I have danced for many years, I learn something new each time. Bruce Lowther and Lila complimented the students on their quick understanding of the calls.
Seven Corvallis Squares members enjoyed their September 20 visit at the Alliance plus dance in Albany’s IOOF Hall. Caller Bruce Lowther and cuer Judy Russell kept us on our toes with some challenging calls. It was a fun dance even if a few of us (me?) felt we were not up to the challenge. More info at www.CorvallisSquares.com.
Rachel Nettleton
Our second dance in September provided hot dogs, and the members brought finger foods to go along with them. There was a lot to choose from. The second dance in October has a Harvest theme.
There is still room for more people on our dance floor. Come and enjoy KC Curtis and Stephanie Lozano provide the music and calls/cues for the dancers.
Our New Dancer Dance is December 14 at 6:30 p.m. New dancers can get their Mid-Willamette New Dancer booklet signed to work their way to earning the Ambassador bar for their badge.
Marilyn Schmit
Looking forward, our New Dancers Dance will be Sunday, December 8, and the ALLIANCE will be hosting a New Year’s Eve Dance at the Lebanon Senior Center as well. We discussed the upcoming Mid-Winter weekend and the possibility of a round dance weekend or full day of dancing, and some teaches. Stay tuned for further details
Marilyn.
We are discussing possible New Year’s Eve activities but have hit a snag because our cuer has been booked elsewhere for the evening. There is a new dancer dance in our area at the same time, so we are not sure how many dancers will attend. Time will tell.
Marilyn
We are averaging nineteen new dancers at our weekly lessons, and they are coming along nicely. Graduation is scheduled for January so they will be ready to go to Mid-Winter Festival.
We are so THANKFUL for the nearly 40 Angels who show up each week to help the new dancers learn and to have fun while doing it.
We are THANKFUL for the many dancers from clubs all over the state and our own club who attend our dances and make them memorable.
We are THANKFUL to our most excellent Caller-Randy Dibble and Cuer-Randy Lewis for their expertise, and their ability to keep us smiling and dancing.
We are THANKFUL to our Club Members for their attendance and assistance at our dances, making sure everyone dances and is welcomed.
We are THANKFUL to our Executive Board for their leadership and dedication to keeping the Club running smoothly.
Our 5th Friday Dance is the day after Thanksgiving- Come join us to dance to GOSPEL MUSIC all evening. We will follow our Regular Dance format: 7:00 p.m. Pre-Rounds, 7:30 p.m. Plus, Mainstream with Rounds 8:00-10:15 p.m.
We wish everyone an incredibly Happy and Safe Thanksgiving.
Our New Dancer Dance will be Friday, December 6. We will have gently used clothing for sale at the dance. Our Christmas Dance will be Friday, December 20 To celebrate the New Year, our January 3 Dance will be Glitz and Glamour as we dance into 2025. See you on the dance floor.

Petrina Buchheit
We will be hosting the first new dancers dance on Dec 1 at the Salem Square Dance Center. Look for flyers to be out soon.
Our caller, Bruce Lowther, and spouse Judy, went on another of their fabulous trips, this last one to Egypt and surrounding areas. Glad to have them back calling for us. We dance the first Friday of the month at the IOOF Hall in Albany. Hope to see you soon in a square.
Sandy
Darrell Kalmbach has been teaching Wednesday night "tune up" workshops for Mainstream dancers. Our last one will be on November 20. This is a great way to brush up. Experienced dancers are welcome. Workshops are $5 each. If you come to a workshop, you pay only $5 for the dance the same night. A great deal!!
November 20 is also our Turkey Raffle. Win a $30 gift card to buy your Thanksgiving turkey or what have you… Our caller will be KC Curtis. And our cuer will be Tami Helms.
Ringing in the holiday season, Darrell Kalmbach will call, and Tami Helms will cue for us on December 4.

The B'n'Bs dance 1st, 3rd, and 5th Wednesdays at Abernethy Grange, 15745 S Harley Ave. in Oregon City. We start pre-rounds at 7:30 with Mainstream from 8-9:30, followed by announcements and one plus tip after break.
A fun observation: several clubs are experiencing an increase in the number of squares on the floor. This certainly adds to the fun for even the non-themed dances. May this become the norm!
Chaps & Petticoats look forward to our upcoming holidays and dances. Chaps dances first and third Fridays. On Dec. 6, Club Caller Scott Zinser opens with Plus at 7:30, Mainstream starts at 8 PM, and Sandra Pinion cues between tips. Dec. 20 is our Christmas Dance! Julie Stiers opens with Rounds at 7:30 pm, and Roger Putzler calls 8-10 pm (the floor will determine if we do a Plus tip). On January 3, 2025 Scott opens with Plus at 7:30, followed by Mainstream at 8 pm, and Julia Buchheit will cue between tips.
Wishing you a Holly Jolly Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Betty Chipps
The 5th Saturday Plus dance on November 30, called and cued by Craig Abercrombie, will also be a Black Light dance. Wear white or fluorescent colors!
Then on December 7, Darrell Kalmbach and Tami Helms will be calling and cueing the dance. Just after Christmas, the 4th Saturday dance, on December 28, will be called by Scott Zinser and cued by Julie Stiers. So much holiday fun!

We’ll round out 2024 with our Cool Yule dance on September 14, Seattle’s Vance Morrison calling.

We would like to wish everyone a wonderful Thanksgiving and a great start to your holiday season!
Advanced lessons started on Nov 17th from 4-530pm. We had 2 squares + an extra couple. We will teach A-1 and A-2 from Nov to May and then continue with Advanced Workshops.
December 15th is our Country Xmas Dance from 230-430pm with Jim calling and Mark McDonald cueing. There will be a potluck following the dance.
Two of the TVC member clubs co-hosted the annual Seaside Sashay in October. The event was a big success having an attendance which exceeded the state sponsored Summer Festival in Salem. Congratulations to both clubs for a job well done. 275 dancers from Oregon and Washington attended the weekend.
It was reported that the TVC was once again the only Council in the Oregon Federation with over 5 clubs to have 100% reporting to the OFN. The club reporters are doing an outstanding job and the TVC wishes to thank all eleven of them. Rather than naming them here you can see their reports below.
The next TVC event will be our New Year’s Eve dance at the IOOF Hall, Hillsboro with Daryl Clendenin calling and Jeanine Norden cueing. The format will be: 7:00 to 7:15 pm, Rounds, 7:15 to 7:30 pm, Plus, and 7:30 to 9:30 pm, Mainstream with every 3rd tip Plus. A ham dinner will be served at 6 p.m., before the dancing. We will have a short break from dancing at 9:00pm to celebrate New Years along with Eastern Time zone.
Since the OFN is published about the 20th of the month, you still have time to plan on attending the Portland Area Council 5th Friday PAC Jamboree Dance on November 29th. This is a New Dancers Jamboree to be held at the Milwaukie Community Club, 10666 SE 42nd Ave, Milwaukie, OR 97222. It is important to get your current and recently graduated students attending dances. Jamborees are an excellent way to introduce them to our activity and to support them. Organize a carpool and show them a good time.
Ferrous Steinka
We also have 8 members going to Buddy Weaver’s Hawaiian gathering the end of the month.
The big news, however, is we are getting prepared for our New Year’s Eve in Chicago. We figure most folks are about danced out by 10 PM if we start at 7:30, so we will celebrate New Year’s Eve with the people in the mid-west at 10PM. Those who want to go out can still have two more hours of fun after the dance. Those of us who want to see the parade the next day can go home. Our callers for the Evening will be Adam Christman and Craig Abercrombie. So, if you enjoyed them at the Sashay, you can get another evening with them that evening.
Our mainstream workshop and our plus lessons continue to have three square every Sunday evening. We will be starting a beginner’s class at the first of the year.
Hope to see you in a square soon.
Nick Johnson
We dance Plus at the Aloha Grange every Monday afternoon from 1:00 to 3:00, and would love to have you join us! For current dancing information, please see our website at https://EagerBeavers.info. (see link above).

Our lessons are progressing with new student and returning dancers looking for a brush-up. Mark Wheeler has the participants moving right along.
On the weekend of October 25th and 26th, we had Hoedowners participating at the Seaside Sashay. We had our traditional Saturday evening dinner at Finns and ended the day by gathering at Laas' beach home for drinks, treats, and a good, relaxed get together. It's one of our favorite times together.
Speaking of good times at the Sashay, I had a wonderful visit with a gal from Yakima. The conversation was freewheeling about retiring, RVing, square dancing, fashion, etc. Have you met and shared with other square dancers from far away who left you happy and better informed? On a recent cruise, Donnie and I met a fun couple from Chicago who square dance twice a week. We discussed many things, club shirts, lessons, COVID and dance venues but that was only part of the fun we had. Next time you have a chance to engage with people you don't know, "May we join you" is a great starter.
In December Hoedowners will be holding a New Dancer Jamboree on the 14th with Bruce Lowther calling. Randy Dibble will man the stage for our second dance of the month on December 28th for our Sparkle Ball. Please join us and wear your sparking, dazzling apparel.

On October 28th members dressed in costume or Halloween-themed clothing, and the Rec Center was decorated with ghosts, goblins, skeletons, and fun Halloween lights. The mood was joyful as our caller Mark Wheeler, dressed as Elvis, swung his hips and curled his lips. Monster Mash was a highlight of the evening, and we enjoyed wonderful snacks and sweets brought by members.
We are always up for a party, and will celebrate the December holidays with decorations, and treats on December 16th.
All are welcome to join our group every Monday evening at 6:30 to 8:30 at Oak Hills Rec Center, NW 153rd Ave. Beaverton. For additional information visit our website, https://oakhillssquares.com/. (see link above)

We were dark for our second dance so all could attend the Seaside Sashay in Seaside Oregon. The convention center was decorated in fall colors. The dancers wore colorful skirts on the woman and ties for the men. We had typical fall weather, wind, rain, sun and fun. Craig Abercrombie and Adam Christman called, and Tami Helms cued. Thanks to Hayshakers and Sunset Promenaders for sponsoring this wonderful dance weekend.
Our lessons continued through the month of October. We had a large turnout of new dancers and some returning dancers. Thanks to our many angels that help the new dancers. Craig Abercrombie is teaching. Lessons are Wednesday, Plus at 6:30p and Basic, Mainstream @ 7:30- 9PM.
Kelso Senior Center is open and renamed Catlin Center. We have already held our lessons and round dances in the renovated hall. Sandy and Dick Sims have resigned from the Board, and Lisa and Doug Jessen were voted in as Board Members.

The club officers voted in a new weather policy since ice and snow are just around the corner. In the event of forecasted snow and or ice, the board will assess the situation and make a decision by noon of the day of the dance if it will be cancelled. They will do their best to send emails to all members. They will also place a notice on our website and post a cancellation on the Federation Facebook page.
The club is looking to start a game night to play board games and cards. More details on this coming soon.
In October we had a fantastic 39th anniversary dance with 57 dancers. The lasagna dinner was a big hit too! Thanks to everyone who joined us! The Promenaders co-hosted the Seaside Sashay on the 25th and 26th of October, and it was very successful! More details to follow when the final results are in. On the last day, Halloween, the Promenader Plus celebrated their 10th Anniversary. See photo in this issue.

The address of the Tillamook Senior Center is 316 Stillwell Avenue, Tillamook. Located on the corner of 4th and Stillwell there is no on site parking and little street parking. The huge Safeway parking lot is directly across the street. Our dances are held weekly on Tuesdays from 4:00 to 6:00 and we always have food and snacks.
