Volunteers: The Heart of Our Clubs!
Square and round dancing flourish because of volunteers. From the club officer who helps keep things organized, to the member who quietly sets up chairs or brings refreshments, every effort contributes to the joy we share on the dance floor. Our activity simply couldn’t survive without these generous hands and hearts.
Volunteering not only keeps our clubs running smoothly, it strengthens the sense of belonging that makes dancing special. When we step forward to help, we deepen our connections and create opportunities for friendship and fun.
This year, let’s encourage one another to get involved — whether in small ways or big. Together, we can keep our organizations strong, our dances welcoming, and our future bright.
Joyce Welton

Recently Cynthia Lamb attended the Huntsman World Senior Games in St George, Utah. She ended up having a fantastic time and brought home a team silver medal for Square Dance!! If you want to learn more about the activities at the Senior Games, search for "Huntsman World Senior Games" or just ask Cynthia! We continue to dance twice a month Sunday afternoons in Hall B of the Emerald Square Dance Center at 2095 Yolanda St. in Springfield from 1:30 to 3:30. Since our numbers are down, we advise that you call Fred Beisse at (458) 221-3564 to make sure we are dancing on any given Sunday. We have a website at cas-sd.yolasite.com where you can check out our tentative schedule.
In September we started an advanced class at the ESDC from 7:15 to 9 with Tim Matteson teaching. We have about 9 people taking the class with two squares on the floor. If you wish to brush up your advanced skills, please come join us. The charge is $5.00 per person. Tim has covered quite a few calls so far and the class is moving right along.
We are looking forward to dancing to Dan Preedy on Nov. 9. Please mark your calendars and come join us.
Keep on dancing!

Everyone is invited to dance each Sunday from 4 to 6. Tim Matteson calls to the floor and is very flexible. Lately we've been dancing advanced. We're happy to dance mainstream and plus too. It’s casual dress always.
The last couple of months we've had to cancel a dance or two because of COVID or out of town festivals. We are settled in for the fall and winter now.
It's good to report that Melba Walker, longtime advocate of Spin Cycle Squares is doing better and better. She can get around her home with the use of her walker. We look forward to her visiting Spin Cycle Squares.
Please call our president, David Lajoie, at 541-521-7311 to make sure we are dancing.
Happy dancing,

It's not too late to fine tune your Halloween costume for our spooky and fun Halloween dance on October 25.
For this dance, find your way to First Congregational United Church, 4515 S. W. West Hills Rd. (our former dance location). Caller will be Roger Putzler and cuer, Sandy Harris.
Our November dances will be back at our current venue, First Baptist Church, 125 N. W. 10th Street. November 8 will be a Veteran's Day dance. All veterans are especially invited to join us as our honored guests.
The 4th Saturday will be extra special --- the first New Dancer Dance in the Mid-Willamette area. Many angels are needed. Please come and bring your newer dancers.
We're so happy to have Roger and Sandy calling and cueing these dances.
Our new dancer classes are off to a smooth start, with Bruce and Judy's careful guidance.

Something different to start the Halloween season.
We had a board meeting on October 11 and will talk about the upcoming dance themes, visitation schedules, and how the lessons are going. There are other miscellaneous items on the agenda and time providing will go through them.
We did a demo for the Bigfoot BBQ & Brews event in Dallas City Park. 21 dancers showed up and a few got to dance with Bigfoot. There were three of them floating around the park. We got some dancers to go through a tip and a person from the beer garden joined us to learn to promenade.

We had a meeting on October 11 in Springfield. We discussed how lessons are going for everyone, the ins and outs of Dance Wizard, and Tim and Tami taught some steps for the Hustle. We also talked about hosting a weekend event for 2026 sometime. Lots of ideas, now to put some of them into action.

We have started back dancing again and we were going to start reviewing Slo Two Step. We instead worked on various rhythms and working on problem spots. A Cue and Do or a Cue and Work. It has been interesting and worth the change in strategy. We will dance as long as the funds hold out. We celebrate 50 years next June.

Over here at the PAC, we are taking a bit of a pause because we won’t have a fifth Friday dance in the last quarter of 2025. Our normal dance night falls on Halloween, and we decided it’s better to stay home and hand out candy rather than dance. We look forward to supporting the TVC’s New Dancer Jamboree on November 29.
Our next PAC dance will be January 30, 2026. Hard to believe we are already thinking about 2026!

Unfortunately, none of our students decided to continue with lessons. As a result, our board has decided to revert to our previous schedule. We’ll start with Plus at 7 pm, followed by Pre-Rounds at 7:15, and Mainstream from 7:30 to 9:30, with a break afterwards. Tami promises to incorporate some higher-level rounds.
We dance the first, third, and fifth Wednesdays at Abernethy Grange. 15745 Harley Ave., Oregon City.

Chaps and Petticoats MS Lessons are in full swing - we happily have four students, one retread and our loyal Angels helping form two squares at Lessons. Scott Zinser, our Club Instructor, keeps us entertained. Angels are always welcome to join us at our MS Lessons each Sunday 5-7pm.
Our Pirate Dance, held Friday, October 3rd had only two squares dancing but dancers were enthusiastic. Scott Zinser opened with Plus - called from the deck of the Pirate Ship-ahoy mateys and Julia Buchheit cued a fabulous set of Rounds. Costume winners were: Debi Pakizer (Country Cut-Ups), Scott Zinser was chosen male Pirate, and our couple was Robert and Young Lumsden (Country Cut-Ups). Thanks to all - you made this dance fun.
Scott will open our next dance on Friday, November 7th and Lane Clem will cue - no theme, just dance.. Chaps will be DARK on Friday, November 21; instead we will host a New Dancer JAMBOREE on Sunday, November 23 from 4:30 - 7:30 pm for $10, which includes a Turkey dinner and all the trimmings. Angels do invite your students to come, maybe even car pool, as we dance to level 36 and feed them too. Scott will open with squares, Dave Cooper (So.Coast Council) is our Cuer and we anticipate a full hall - thus food will be served, in three shifts, beginning 5:30pm. Non-dancers are welcome to join us as well for a $5/dinner charge. The more the merrier!
See you at the “Turkey Trot” JAMBOREE.

October was an awesome month for the Country Cutups. We celebrated our 65th anniversary as a club. We had over 6 squares at our first dance of the month.
Our lessons continue to do well, with over 13 students rapidly learning from Scott and our angels. We also continue to have Bingo on the second and fourth Fridays of the month. If you are interested in winning some cash, come join us.
If you read this when it comes out, please remember we are dark on October 25 as most of our club will be at the Seaside Sashay.
Once we get back, we will be gearing up to enjoy the musical styling of Terry Halley and Julia Buchheit on November 1. Then, on to some pre-turkey dancing with Scott Zinser and Julie Stiers on November 22. And if you eat a little too much like yours truly, then come join us on November 29 for some post-turkey, get you moving, Plus with Craig Abercrombie calling and cueing. Hope to see you at the Boring Barn. Just remember we are NOT Boring.
Sincerely,
The Country Cutups

The Happy Hoppers of Vancouver, WA, enjoyed their dances for first Saturday Plus dance and third Saturday Mainstream with some Plus. Craig Abercrombie called and cued both dances, getting the Square & Round Dance season at Washington Grange #82 going.
October is here, and we are anticipating lots of Fall fun in our club. Our first session of lessons began September 6 and will be completed October 27. We will celebrate by hosting a Beginners Dance (costumes optional) on Monday, October 27. Craig Abercrombie will be calling 7:30-9:00 PM. All clubs are welcome and can bring students. Door prizes and social time after!
Happy Hoppers clothing sale will take place Monday, October 20 from 6-8:30
(beautiful used clothing with guaranteed experience and great prices).
November dances are on the horizon. Craig Abercrombie will be calling and cueing Plus with Rounds on November 1 and Mainstream with some Plus and Rounds on November 15. Both dances go from 7-9:30 pm.
A new session of Basic/Mainstram and Plus lessons will begin on Monday, November 3. Happy Hoppers hope to see new students and repeating angels! Lessons start at 6:30 for Plus and at 7:30 for Basic/Mainstream.
We do want to remind our members that traveling to other clubs and festivals builds friendships that last forever!

October has been the usual manic maelstrom for Portland’s Rosetown Ramblers. We kicked off the month with a visitation to the Country Cut-ups 65th anniversary dance. The Boring Barn is always a hotbed of activity, and the Cut-ups entertained us with great dancing and fabulous hospitality—including an incredible array of pies. The cherry on our sundae was taking back home the Ramblers’ banner that Cut-ups captured in September.
The madness continued the following weekend with our annual fall festival, Scares and Squares. We welcomed over 100 dancers over the course of the weekend, dancing all programs from SSD through C-2. We also learned two line dances, taught by club member Clara Daikh. Our international callers Vic Ceder, Darren Gallina, and Stephen Cole did an amazing job entertaining the crowd and introducing some cutting-edge singing calls. We don’t dance just to cowboy songs at the Ramblers. We welcomed dancers from all over the Northwest, from the coast to the desert, and from as far away as Chicago.
Our next social dance will feature the sensational Dan Preedy calling on Saturday, November 8. We will alternate Mainstream and Plus tips from 7-9:30 at Oak Grove Community Hall, 14496 SE Cedar Ave., Oak Grove. Janienne Alexander-Kellogg will call our December 13 dance at the same time and place. Fun times ahead!

The September 22nd in person TVC meeting was held at the Aloha Grange with President Sally Duyck presiding. There were eighteen attendees present. We listened with appreciation the informative State Delegete report from Laura Irvan. There was much to cover. The details of our class reimbursement policy for TVC member clubs are still being discussed.
The Council highly recommends that all TVC dancers attend the anniversary dances held by other member clubs. On November 6th the Sunset Promenaders Plus club will celebrate their 11th anniversary featuring Darrell Kalmbach calling and Tami Helms cueing. Held at the Hillsboro IOOF Hall, advanced rounds will begin at 7pm with Plus and Ph II - IV rounds until 9:30, all plus dancers welcome. Cupcakes, ice cream and fellowship to follow the dance.
Since the OFN is published about the 20th of the month, you still have time to plan on attending the TVC 5th Saturday dance on November 29th. In keeping with the Tri-Council's interest in supporting beginning dancers, the TVC will be having a "New Dancer Jamboree". This is to be a mainly Mainstream dance featuring Scott Zinser calling and Lane Clem cueing. It will be held at the Kinton Grange with pre-rounds at 7pm, Plus at 7:15, followed by Mainstream from 7:30 to 9:30pm.
The next TVC event will be the New Years Eve dance at the IOOF Hall in Hillsboro on December 31st. Darrell Kalmbach calling, Tami Helms cueing the evening which follows a ham dinner. More details next month. It is not too early to be thinking about your year-end dance.

Fall is in the Air… and so are Right and Left Grand’s and Do-Si-Dos!
September kicked off our Beginner Square Dance lessons, and we’re thrilled to say—we haven’t lost anyone yet! (Well, okay, one person ended up in the wrong square, but they made some new friends and learned to promenade, so we’re counting it as a win.)
Like many other clubs, we offer the first two lessons free, which means we get a fun mix of curious first-timers and a few folks who just heard there might be snacks. We’re happy to report that we’ve kept about six brand-new dancers, plus a few returning students from our Spring session—clearly, we didn’t scare them off the first time!
Thanks to our amazing “angels”—those helpful dancers who always know their left from their right (and kindly remind the rest of us)—we’ve been averaging a solid four squares on Sunday nights. That’s 32 people moving in (mostly) the same direction at the same time—no small feat!
Daryl Clendenin, our fearless instructor, continues to charm and challenge us in both our Mainstream/Plus and Beginner classes. His superpower? Keeping dancers smiling, laughing, and learning—often all at once, and sometimes while spinning in circles.
Looking ahead to November, our classes will keep rolling right along (unlike some of us during “Spin Chain the Gears”). And of course, our club dances will be held as usual on the 1st and 3rd Fridays of the month—mark your calendars and shine up those dancing shoes!
Whether you're a seasoned square dance pro or still trying to figure out what a "Dosado" is (no, it’s not a snack—sorry), you're always welcome on the floor with us. Come for the fun, stay for the footwork… and maybe the cookies.

We brought out our red, white, and blue to kick off September with our Labor Day Dance — a festive way to celebrate the season! A big thank you to Daryl Clendenin, who stepped in as our Guest Caller and kept the floor hopping.
Later in the month, we welcomed Roger Putzler on September 15th as our second Guest Caller. The other three Mondays, we enjoyed dancing to Darrell Kalmbach, with Tami Helms and Lane Clem alternating as our talented cuers.
We’ve been averaging four lively squares each week — what a great turnout!
Looking ahead, mark your calendars for our Annual Veterans’ Dance on November 10th, when we’ll honor all veterans, including those who served in other countries. As a token of our appreciation, veterans dance for free.
You are welcome to join us for Plus with Phase II and III Rounds at the Aloha Grange every Monday afternoon from 1:00 to 3:00. For current dancing information, please see our website at https://EagerBeavers.info. (see link above).

Kick-Off was the theme of the Hoedowner's September 13th "Fall Kickoff Dance" and we all know what that means, the beginning of the season. If you're an American football fan it means evenings and weekends watching men, women and boys chase after a prolate spheroid known in the vernacular as a football. There is of course the soccer fan, whose numbers far exceed those of American football. They play with a round ball which they kick and headbutt on a tip. Does it matter? No! Just be enthusiastic, root for you team and eat plenty of food. Does sound like square dancing at all? Definitely not the kicking and headbutting but the enthusiasm and food certainly does. Thank you to the enthusiastic dancers who came to share an evening at the Aloha Grange while Michael Kious and Randy Lewis were coaching across the floor.
On September 27th we enjoyed the "Don't Worry Be Hippie Dance". Wow, that implies the 60's and 70's long hair, bell bottoms and protest songs. Did you participate and grow your hair long, parted in the middle. We certainly did and the music was classic. Gosh the long hair on females is back. Were you dancing with us that night? Michael Kious was calling and Randy Lewis cueing.
What does the future hold? That famous or infamous "Turkey Toss Dance" on November 8th when your skills at tossing a bean bag can earn you a bird of some sort and size followed on the 22nd by our "Harvest Dance" celebrating the harvest of pumpkins, apples, wheat, barley and grapes.
Hope to see you there.

Summer brought an end to our hosting many dancers from other clubs who visited Oak Hills Squares while their own clubs took a summer break. But throughout September we had a full house on Monday evenings and continue to have 3 squares dancing to Mark Wheeler's exuberant calls.
Many Tri Squares attended our dances this summer and took our Oak Hills Banner. Eight members from Oak Hills Squares attended the Tri Squares Anniversary Dance on September 26th, which allowed the club to bring home our banner.
We have several Theme Dances planned for the coming months, and all are invited to share in our fun. October 27th the "Boo Ball" will include spooky decorations, special music, and food provided by the club. Wear a costume and join in the festivities.
We will also host a "Give Thanks" dance on November 24th, to celebrate Thanksgiving, complete with decorations and snacks.

R Square D was back in the swing with lessons in September. Craig Abercrombie is the Caller Instructor. We have Plus lessons and Basic /Mainstream. We have had 31 interested new dancers and 21 that have made the weekly commitment. We have enough Angels with some coming from Cougar Squares and Columbia River Dancers. This is much appreciated.
Our September dances were a Sock Hop on September 12th. Several participants wore poodle skirts and men with rolled up jeans and t-shirts, reminiscent of 1950's dances. See photo in the OFN photos section.
Our second September dance was a Neil Diamond tribute. Caller and Cuer Craig Abercrombie called and cued to many of Neil Diamond's tunes. We had 7 squares dancing and several just sitting. Our new member committee decorated the hall in silver and blue.
This November we will have a Veterans Day dance on November 12th. We will be honoring Scott Lee, an R Square D dancer who passed away in late August. Scott was a Vietnam Veteran who proudly displayed his service to America. We miss him as a dancer and honor his service to the USA.
Our second dance, on November 22nd Craig Abercrombie and Susan Healea will call and cue to several favorite Gospel tunes. This theme dance is always well attended and we invite all to come. We dance at Catlin Center, 106 NW 8TH Kelso, WA. 98626.

September’s Club activities:
• As is our normal practice, we had two Mainstream dances in September. The first on September 6th was our monthly themed dance, "The Roaring 20's". We felt we needed to specify the 1920's. The dance was well attended as you can see by viewing the photos on the Promenaders website 'Gallery'. September also included a Mainstream dance on the 20th, and Plus dances on the 4th and 18th.
• Club had a campout at Silver Lake, Washington on September 25th through 27th and had ten of the club members participate. The weather was great, and all had a fun time both on the lake and on the shore around the campfire. Some of them went sightseeing to Mt. Saint Helens.
• Several committees were busily concluding the plans for the annual Seaside Sashay which includes travel to sign up the various businesses who offer discounts and prizes.
November’s Club Activities:
• November Club activities include the 11th anniversary of the Plus Promenaders on November 6th. The Plus dancing group is a continuation of the Plus Knights after Norm and Marci Yoder retired from calling after many years. Darrell Kalmbach and Tami Helms are now the caller and cuer and we dance from 7:00PM until 9:30 with a refreshment break at the end. We are having cup cakes and ice cream at the break to celebrate the anniversary. All Plus dancers are invited to come and dance with us to celebrate our anniversary.
• November’s Sunset Promenaders Mainstream dances are on the 1st, and on the 15th we will have a Thanksgiving themed dance and of course you square dancers are all invited to each.
• The Club is collecting non-perishable food for the needy.
• Happy Thanksgiving, God bless you.
We enjoy visitors, and we invite more dancers to visit us both at our Plus Dances on the first, third, and fifth Thursdays and the Mainstream Dances on first and second Saturdays, all at Hillsboro’s Odd Fellows Hall at Third and Main upstairs {elevator available). The dance hall has a great wood dance floor.

Tri Squares are back for the New Dance Year!
August marked the start of our ramp-up to a brand-new year of square dancing fun, and we’re off to a great start!
We celebrated our club’s anniversary on September 26th with a fantastic dance—and 37 guests joined us! Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate with us. What a wonderful night!
In August and September, our members were busy spreading the word about square dancing. Many proudly wore their “Ask Me About Square Dancing” badges to help spark conversations and invite others into the fun.
Our new dancer lessons began on September 28th with 11 enthusiastic students eager to learn the steps! We have one more introductory lesson coming up and hope to welcome even more new faces.
Looking ahead, we’ve got three themed dances planned for late October and November—all held at the Kinton Grange in Beaverton. Join us for: Plus & Pre-Rounds at 7:00 PM & Mainstream at 7:30 PM
All dances include themed attire, after-dance snacks, and a chance to socialize!
Upcoming Dances:
• October 24 – TV & Movie Character Night: Dress as your favorite character!
• November 14 – Grateful Harvest Pie Party: Wear fall colors or come as your favorite pie!
• November 28 – Fall Into Fun: Represent your favorite sports team or showcase a hobby with your outfit!
We’d love to see you at a Tri Squares event soon!

We would like to thank the Hay Shakers for bring over a square to our anniversary dance in September.
Our caller Anthony Egan has been reassigned out of state by his job for a year and will be unable to call for us starting mid October. We are working on arrangements for a caller to cover for him and if all else fails we will be dancing to recorded music.
Wavesteppers dance at the Tillamook Senior Center from 4-6pm on Tuesday each week. The address of the Tillamook Senior Center is 316 Stillwell Avenue, Tillamook. Located on the corner of 4th and Stillwell there is no on site parking and little street parking. The huge Safeway parking lot is directly across the street. Our dances are held weekly on Tuesdays from 4:00 to 6:00 and we always have food and snacks.
