Our Fifth Saturday dance in August will be a dance called and cued by amateur callers and cuers.
Happy calling and cueing for you,
Christina Corelli,
In February we held our first dance to recorded tips on Feb. 1 and are looking forward to Feb. 15th when we will have a dance at the A1 level for our new A1 dancers who went through lessons at our hall with Tim Matteson teaching on Wednesday evenings. I am submitting a photo of the class which can be found in the photo section of this newsletter. My thanks to Chris Vanderlinde for taking the photo for me.
In March we will host dances on the 1st and 15th with the one on the 15th being another A1 level dance, this time with national caller Kris Jensen from Albuquerque helping our class get used to a live caller besides their teacher Tim Matteson. We hope they will get through the next several months to learn the full A2 list and join us on Sunday afternoons from 1:30 to 3:30 in Hall B at the Emerald Square Dance Center. We try to dance on the 2nd and 4th Sundays but lately because of holidays and other events we have been dancing on the 1st and 3rd Sunday. Please come join us if you are in the area. We always love to see visitors. All of our dances are casual attire.
If you want to be on the email list to be notified of upcoming dances or want to check to be sure we are dancing, please call Fred Beisse at (458) 221-3564. You can seet our tentative schedule at cas-sd.yolasite.com.
Keep on dancing, everyone!

Melba Walker, one of our members, fell Thursday at Mid-Winter Festival and broke her wrist. Talk about adding insult to injury! Last year Melba survived her shoulder surgery and breaking her neck after that. You just can't keep that gal down. She did come out to the dance and watched. We are wishing her wrist to heal up soon so she's back to dancing with us again!
We were thrilled to have Tim and Cheryl Hagey back dancing with us. They've both had some pretty serious health issues. Their Santa and Mrs. Claus schedule during December was pretty full as well. Tim brings some of his sewn creatures and other things for us to drool over and buy! He's pretty talented. He also knits incredible things! Cheryl brought a quilt she finished--just beautiful! Sometimes they bring their grandsons which is always fun. Killian, the oldest, square dances too!
We look forward to having Kris Jensen with us March 15. Kris is our member, Kurt Jensen's, sister. Kris is an awesome caller who lives in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Please call David Lajoie at 541-520-7311 if you wish to make sure we are dancing.
We welcome all guests! It’s always casual attire.
Happy dancing,
Christina Corelli
We are contemplating merging with Single Trees since our club numbers have dwindled. Both Single Tree and Whirl-A-Ways have awesome and thoughtful dancers so a merger would certainly work and, hopefully, make a difference.
Happy Dancing,
Christina Corelli, Cuer

March 13 and 14, we hit the road for our annual Coast Retreat at Gleneden Beach. We would love to have all our friends join us. It's always a fun time. Shaun McKamey will call Friday night, and Bruce Lowther will call Saturday night. Judy Russell will cue both nights. The dances start at 6:45 p.m. Saturday noon features a potluck, followed by games. All events are at Gleneden Beach Community Center, 110 Azalea.
We won't dance at home on Saturday, March 28, but we will be back at our home hall in April.

The club danced at the Oregon Capitol Rotunda on February 14 to celebrate the 167th birthday of Oregon Statehood and to showcase the state dance of Oregon.
KC Curtis began teaching Plus lessons on February 15 at 6:00 p.m. We encourage Mainstream dancers to join us.
The club will celebrate 66 years as a club on March 14. Come and see who KC invites to be his guests on stage for the party. Dancing starts at 6:30 p.m.

We set up some details for the round dance weekend in August. We will dance on Friday and Saturday, August 21-22, at the Emerald Dance Center in Springfield. Hot August Rounds will be a phase 2-5 weekend with some workshops, teaches, and of course, dancing with cuers from around Oregon. The cost for the weekend is $25. There will be no daily fee. Dry camping is available on site. Two halls will be available, so we are encouraging the lower-level dancers to attend and enjoy all that will be available.
Our next meeting is in April in Springfield to set up any other details that may be needed for August, and to vote for officers.

February 20 is our Sweetheart dance. Watch for the flyer for our March 20 Annual Hobo Dance and Teen Festival Fundraiser.
We started our practices with the youth preparing to participate in the Pacific Northwest Teen Square Dance Festival, May 1-2, 2026, at Blanchet School. Our goal is to have two squares, one Pre/Teen Novice and one Junior level. The youth are selling Pins that will enable you to attend the Friday night dance and the Saturday competition. They are $3.00 each. Ask any of our young dancers to get yours.
Mainstream lessons began on February 11. We are looking forward to adding more square dancers to our great activity.
Randy Dibble is also teaching the New Plus List on Wednesdays after the Mainstream class. See the flyer on the OFN website. See you on the dance floor.
Sheila Machado
We have started practice for the Pacific Northwest Teen Square Dance Festival. We hope to have two squares this year. The Festival will be at Blanchet High School in Salem on May 1st & 2nd. There are several volunteer positions to be filled, so if you can help out, please contact Karyn Buchheit at 503-383-4869.
Our fundraiser dance is on March 28 at Bethany Charter School. Please see the flyer in the OFN.

Our next PAC dance won’t be until July 31 because we will be enjoying the Tri-Council Dance hosted by the Evergreen Council on May 30.
Our council elections are coming up in March. We are having trouble recruiting a nominee for the president position. We are considering drastically reducing the number of in-person council meetings in the hope that a smaller time commitment will make the position more palatable to potential candidates.
On March 18, our own Melissa James will call, and Tami Helms will cue. We all look forward to meeting you on the dance floor!
B ‘n’ Bs dance 1st, 3rd, and 5th Wednesdays at Abernethy Grange, 15745 Harley Ave., Oregon City. The format is 7:00 Plus, 7:15 Pre-Rounds, and 7:30 to 9:30 Mainstream.

We look forward to celebrating our 51st Club Anniversary on February 20 with the Flintstones dance. There will be picture opportunities in the Flintstone mobile, too. Darrell Kalmbach, a/k/a Fred Flintstone, will call. Tami Helms, our Betty Rubble cuer, will open with pre-rounds at 7:30pm. If you choose to dress as your favorite Flintstone character, you could win a prize. The attending dancers will determine our costume winners for Male, Female and Couple prizes.
These C&P dances will take us into Spring at Maplewood Grange in Aurora:
• Just Dance on March 6, with Julie Stiers cueing pre-rounds at 7:30pm. Terry Halley will entertain you 8-10 pm, with humor, of course, and Mainstream dancing..
• Open Mic Night on Friday, March 20. Caller/Cuer MCs will be Thomas Buchheit and Katie Marteny beginning at 7:30pm. We look forward to dancing to our youth Callers and Cuers!
• Hippie Dance is what’s happening on Friday, April 3. Our Caller Dude, Scott Zinser, may show up in a cast (after his February 12 surgery). Stephanie Lozano, our Flower Power Cuer, will open the dance at 7:30pm. Costumes are encouraged but not required). Sure hope you can join us!
Happy Feet,

The Cut-Ups class graduated six new dancers on February 5! Everyone had a great time at graduation.
We also had a good time with Darrel Kalmbach and Tami Helms on February 7.
We celebrated Galentines Bingo on February 13 at the Barn.
We have a visitation planned to go to Happy Hoppers on February 21, with an amazing dinner at The Golden Corral before the dance. We are excited to be back at our Barn for Bingo on February 27 and our dance on February 28 with Terry Halley calling and Julie Stiers cueing!
We will have another dance on March 7 with Thomas Buchheit calling and Sherri Milling cueing. Bingo at the Barn will be held March 13 and March 27. Our fourth Saturday will be March 28, with Daryl Clendenin calling and Julie Stiers cueing!

March is almost here, and the club is feeling "lucky" to host Roger Putzler calling and Julie Stiers cueing on March 7, then Adam Christman on March 21 calling and cueing. Both of our March dances are Mainstream with some Plus and Rounds. We wanted to share visiting callers with all members and guests. Come join us ... both dances are 7:00-9:30 PM. Feel free to wear your green and have some fun this month, we're all a bit Irish!
Club Caller Craig Abercrombie will be starting our fourth session of lessons. Basic/Mainstream lessons and Plus lessons are beginning on Monday, March 2, with Plus at 6:30 Basic/Mainstream at 7:30. The Happy Hoppers are so proud of our square dance angels ... they all attend and welcome our new students. Thank you!
Our club really enjoys hosting other clubs and traveling to other clubs. We have fun capturing many banners and like sharing our travel banners. Come on over to the Happy Hoppers in Vancouver, WA on first and third Saturdays.
See you dancing ... Roz and Denise Buddenberg

We are actively planning for a wonderful Boatnik Festival with the FUN Hunter Keller and MaryAnn Callahan. We are planning for the jet boat trip on Sunday afternoon after dancing ends. This worked out nicely last year. Watch the website and Facebook for the Reservation number. We hope to see you at the festival!! Get your ribbons before the price increases.
We are also planning for our 59th birthday dance in December. Mike Sikorsky will be calling and Rikki cueing - should be a great celebration.
Happy Dancing!

A successful TVC Dance was held at the Aloha Grange on January 31st with Mike Kious and Lane Clem. Oak Hills Squares took home the attendance banner for highest percentage of club attending.
The Council highly recommends that all TVC dancers attend the anniversary dances held by other member clubs. On March 6th the Columbia River Dancers will hold their 11th Anniversary dance at the Manor Grange, 17901 NE 72nd Ave, Battle Ground, WA 98604. Adam Christman will be calling & cueing from 7:00 to 9:30, with the first half hour Plus followed by 2 hours of Mainstream/Rounds with every 3rd tip Plus. See Columbia River Dancers flyer in the "Flyers" section of the OFN.
The TVC has decided to not hold a meeting in February, unless it is decided otherwise later. The next scheduled meeting will be on March 23rd via Zoom.

We will have Adam Christman calling again on March 6th to call our 11th Year Celebration Dance. First 50 people get a dangle. Daryl Clendenin will be calling our regular dance on the 20th.
Speaking of celebrations, the Mid-Winter dance was one of the best we have attended. There was great calling in all the rooms, cueing to new songs for many of us and lots of dancers. About 800 ribbons were sold this year. Old timers tell me that number was small compared to years past. I lost count of the number of CRD dancers were there but I know everyone had a great time. Congratulations to everyone involved. We are looking forward to next winter all ready.
Lastly, we are having great beginner's classes this winter. You know they are having a good time when they chatter and talk well after lessons are over. I am not quite sure if they will be ready for our celebration dance but they are learning very quickly. Crossing my fingers.
Will see you in a square soon.

Many of our members attended the Mid-Winter Festival and still had the energy to dance with us on the 25th - though after a weekend of dancing on concrete floors, tired legs definitely required a few extra breaks!
March brings five Mondays for dancing, including our St. Patrick’s Day Dance on the 16th. So dust off your green and come join us as we ease out of winter and into spring!
Our Plus lessons started in February. You are invited to come and brush up on your Plus and learn moves coming to the Plus list while lessons are going on 12:00 - 1:15.
During our lessons, our regular dances are 1:15 to 3:00. We dance every Monday at the Aloha Grange with Darrell Kalmbach calling, and Tami Helms or Lane Clem cueing Phase II and III Rounds on alternate Mondays. For current dancing information, please see our website at https://EagerBeavers.info. (see link above).

Mainstream lessons run from 5:00 to 7:00 pm and are almost complete; these are followed by a short Mainstream dance for Angels. On the fourth Sunday of the month, we celebrate with a class level dance followed by a potluck dinner, because nothing fuels fancy footwork like casseroles and cookies!
Interesting times! During an Angel tip after lessons at 7 o’clock, we typically dance Allemande Thar, Cloverleaf, Walk and Dodge, and more . . . come September they’ll all disappear from Mainstream and become Plus. Twelve Mainstream calls will be lost - one will have to take up Plus to win them back!! Then the excitement begins - eleven calls will move down to Plus from A-1 in September. Can’t wait.

We launched the year with our “Welcome New Students" dance on January 10th and are thrilled to welcome four new members to our long standing Hoedowner Family!
We went dark for the 2026 Mid-Winter festival, on January 24th but the fun didn't stop! Sarah and David represented us beautifully in the Showcase of Rounds and performed a waltz choreographed by our very own cuer Randy Lewis!
On February 28th we will be ringing in the Year of the Fire Horse with style! Join us for a festive evening celebrating Chinese New Year complete with Chinese Food served after the dance! Yum! Michael Kious will be calling and Randy Lewis cueing.
March is then rolling in like a lion and you may be feeling a wee bit lucky and yearning to wear the green. If yes, join us on March 14th for our Erin Go Braugh dance! Michael calling and Randy cueing with Shepherds pie and other lucky goodies served after the dance.
We will close out March with a dance that is equal parts retro and ridiculous in the best way! Join us for our Chicken Sock Hop. We decided to go with the Chicken not bunny as Michael is going to wear his Chicken Costume! Come in your favorite spring animal costume or 50's attire as we mix it up with both costumes and retro style! With Michael and Randy calling and cueing this fun dance with refreshments served after.

Many club members attended the Midwinter Festival and reported a wonderful experience. Oak Hills' own Marie and Lane Clem were nominated for the Randall Award for service to the Square Dance community, and their impressive biography of service was displayed.
Eight Oak Hills members attended the TVC dance at the Aloha Grange in January which enabled us to take home the coveted Banner. The Oak Hills Board agreed to promote quarterly visitations to other clubs and we look forward to experiencing fun times with many of you.
Looking forward to spring, we plan to Dress in Green for St Patrick's Day and treats will be provided. Our club also encourages members to dress in "Oak Hills Green" the first Monday of each month, and many are sporting the lovely logo shirts on those evenings. Also looking ahead, we plan to host a Cinco de Mayo special dance on May 4th.
Longtime member Barb Laney has invited our Oak Hills Squares group to participate in a fun evening sharing food and dancing with members of her church on March 23rd. Our club "angels" along with caller Mark Wheeler, will provide a lively evening of basic square dancing to novice dancers. This activity has been done in the past with great success and guaranteed fun for all.

A new set of lessons began on January 7th and was open for two weeks, with free admission to new dancers both weeks. We had 27 new dancers attend one or both weeks and we credit the large numbers to extensive advertising that our president, Lisa Jessen, does before each set of new lessons. This includes social media and local advertising (newspaper, radio, flyers with pull-off cards). The number of students has dropped to about 15 and we are hopeful that all will continue with lessons.
Our March 13th dance has the theme “Irish Eyes Are Dancing” and it will be a class level dance for lessons that began in January. Jim Raupp will call this dance and Susan Healea is cueing. Jim is also filling in for Craig for our March lessons, as Craig and Judy will be in Arizona for Mariners Spring Training, as usual! Terry Halley will call and Susan Healea will cue on March 28th for our “Dancing in the Rain” dance. No, we won’t be dancing outside, but there might be umbrellas inside!
Our club recently created a new logo that is on club t-shirts, sweatshirts and new badges that were purchased in the last couple of months. We are excited to show them off at dances and other club functions! The new logo may be seen on our website.

March 28 (4th Sat)• The Oregon Federation of Square Dance awards a Randall Award every year to someone or a couple for outstanding work in square dancing community, Lane and Marie Clem, our club members were nominated for the Randall Award with a long list of Square Dance work and achievements, but they did not get chosen, maybe next year. They are worthy of the award.
• The Promenaders have had two Mainstream Square Dance Lessons so far and they are going smoothly with Darrell Kalmbach instructing and the students already dancing easy dances. We had eleven students at the Sunday lesson. We do not take any new students from now on, but we do appreciate angel dancers.
• Several club members went to Oregon Federation Mid-Winter festival and had an enjoyable time. Tami Helms, Tim Keck, Dennis, and Doreen danced at the Showcase of Rounds. Richard Cason recorded and broadcasted the Showcase using Zoom software. His videos and photos are on our website "Gallery". Overall, the Festival went smoothly, and the dancers enjoyed seeing and talking with friends they may only see there.
March Club Activities:
• Promenaders March Plus dances are on the 5th and 19th and the Mainstream dances are on the 7th and 21st.
• The March 21st dance theme is Irish Fling, and we will be serving baked potatoes at the break. This is an annual tradition for the club and there also may be a surprise at the break. The dancers seem to enjoy it.

In January, we continued our mainstream lessons and added three weeks of English Country Dance. English Country Dance is another form of folk dance, similar to square dancing, danced in lines with a partner. Many of its figures are foundational to modern square dancing. Each week, we filled an entire line of dancers from the front of the hall all the way to the exit door; it was a blast for everyone involved!
We held one dance on January 9th, featuring a Western country theme. We were dark at the end of January, which gave many of our members the opportunity to attend the Mid-Winter Festival.
March is shaping up to be a busy and exciting month, with two dances, a visitation, mainstream student graduation, and line dancing.
• March 1st will be our final Line Dancing session, open to everyone, no dance experience required. It runs from 1:45–3:15 PM, so stop by to learn a few dances and have some fun.
• March 8th marks our mainstream student graduation. We’re always thrilled to welcome new dancers into our club.
• Our March dances include Bit O’ the Irish on March 13th (wear your green!) and Spring Fling on March 27th, where bright spring colors are encouraged.
• We also have a visitation planned with the Hoedowners on March 14th in Aloha.
We’re looking forward to a fun-filled couple of months and hope to see you on the dance floor!

On January 17th, our “Let’s Dance” night featured Scott Zinser calling, and the energy on the floor proved that dancing really is the best invitation there is.
Our Tuesday classes continue to make great progress, and it’s wonderful to see our students gaining confidence and polishing those moves, proof that practice really does make perfect (or at least danceable!).
Looking ahead to March, we’re excited about two great dances. On March 6th, we’ll host our first Friday dance, from 7:00 to 9:00 pm, with Mark Wheeler calling and Connie Clark cueing. Then on March 21st, join us for our third Saturday dance, also from 7:00 to 9:00 pm, featuring George Hermann calling and Connie Clark cueing.
George will be filling in for Scott while Scott recovers from foot surgery. We’re wishing Scott a smooth recovery; those stairs will still be there when he’s ready! In the meantime, come enjoy George and Connie as they keep us dancing and laughing.
We dance at the Aloha Grange, located on SW 185th and TV Highway in Beaverton. Everyone is welcome, so come join us and have fun, because life is better when you’re dancing!

While Anthony is on a 1 year military deployment, Terry Halley will be calling on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of each month. We are still working on lining up callers for the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of each month, stay tuned! Lane Clem and Roger Putzler have recently called the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays and we thank them for helping out.
As always, Wavesteppers’ dances are weekly on Tuesdays, and we never dance on an empty stomach. Food and snacks are always provided, giving everyone enough fuel to swing, promenade, and maybe sneak back for seconds.
Come join us, good dancing, good food, and good company guaranteed.
