As my year serving as President of the Federation comes to a close, I want to take a moment to sincerely thank everyone who has supported me along the way.
It has been a truly rewarding experience on a personal level to serve our dancing community in this role. I have been continually inspired by the dedication, energy, and generosity of dancers, callers, cuers, officers, and volunteers across the state. Nothing in this organization happens alone. Every event, every festival, every meeting, and every success is the result of many people working together behind the scenes and on the floor. I am deeply grateful for all the encouragement, guidance, and teamwork I have received throughout this year.
Thank you for trusting me with the privilege of serving as your President. It has been an honor to be part of such a passionate and committed community that truly keeps square and round dancing alive and thriving in Oregon.
I look forward to continuing to support and dance with all of you in the years ahead.
Joyce Welton, Federation President

Hey square dancers in Salem, Keizer, Corvallis, Silverton, Albany, Lebanon, Bend, Springfield and cities on the coast! There’s going to be a new game in town. Barbi Ashwill and I have done some investigating. We have found that several of you do not like to drive at night any more or you cannot drive at night. You like the summer months because the daylight is longer. But, summer is coming to an end and the days are progressively getting shorter and your dancing is going to be curtailed. Never fear, we have a solution!
Up until now the only daytime clubs for square dancing are in Hillsboro or Vancouver. So, we decided to rectify that situation.
Starting Thursday, October 1st. We will be hosting a club dance at the Salem Square Dance Center from 12:30 to 3:00pm. The address is 3695 45th Ave. NE in Salem.
We have tentatively named this new club the Heshtags. HE for Hermann and SH for Ashwill. We thought it was “catchy”. It will be mainly mainstream unless we get a lot of plus dancers and then we will do some plus tips. It will all be the new programs. Also, easy level rounds will be offered.
So, if you would like to try out this new dance site, please join us on October 1st. There is a flyer here in the OFN with more information.
We look forward to seeing you
George Hermann

We are looking forward in September to having Dan Preedy call for us. Dan is a smooth, strong caller who is well known in the Northwest as well as elsewhere. It will be a lot of fun so please plan on joining us on Sept. 20. We will dance next on Aug. 23 and then Sept. 6 to recorded tips if we get enough dancers to participate.
We dance at 2095 Yolanda in Springfield in Hall B with access behind the building, large double doors. We dance from 1:30 to 3:30 normally on the second and fourth Sundays, but often we switch to the first and third, depending on when holidays fall or when the hall is available.
It is best to call Fred Beisse at 458-221-3564 to make sure we are dancing or let him know you'd like to be on the email notification list. And if you are on the email notification list and intend to come, please reply to let him know. Our tentative schedule can be found at cas-sd.yolasite.com.
See you in a square soon!

One of the dancers who supports us each Sunday is Joy Pitts. We learned that Joy had suffered a stroke and is in the hospital but slated for rehab soon. Because Joy is active in square dancing her prognosis is very good. Keeping active and using her brain has made a difference. Our best wishes for a full and uick recovery, Joy.
We rarely go dark, but sometimes things happen. Please call our president, David Lajoie at 541-520-7311 just in case if you plan to join us.
Please come and join us any Sunday. It’s always casual dress. We always have a variety of snacks and goodies to share.
Christina Corelli
The new dancer dances start on November 7 with Independence Wagon Wheelers as the hosts. There is only one new dancer dance per weekend this season, which is what the callers and cuers in the area requested.
The Fall Festival is on October 31 with Willamette Squares as hosts. This is always a good time for the fall season.
See you in our area sometime this season. You are most welcome to attend any of the dances in various locations throughout our council. Check the OFN for flyers for themes and times.

Have you made plans to attend the Clackamas County Fair in Canby happening August 18-22? Chaps and friends will do a Square Dance demonstration on Thursday, August 10, beginning at 3:30 pm on the Rodeo Stage with our Caller, Scott Zinser. Afterwards we will invite the audience to join us for a fun square dance lesson. The dancing ends about 5:00 pm, and some of us will head for some eats at the Food Court. Won’t you join us? Before you leave the fair, grab a bag of fresh-made cookies, sold at Horning Hall. The sale is a fundraiser for the Clackamas Pomona Grange, and the cookies are yummy!

The Happy Hoppers of Vancouver, WA, have been dark June through August, but Washington Grange #82 will be ready for us to resume dancing in September
Although our club was dark during the summer, many members were able to visit other clubs and attend some fun festivals. They have been eager to share their experiences with all of us. We thank everyone who kept dancing and appreciate their commitment of sharing the Happy Hoppers dancing spirit.
The club's annual picnic was Sunday, August 2. The club provided hamburgers and hot dogs while members provided a salad, dessert or side dish. The food was fabulous, weather was perfect, venue was spot-on, and being together as a club (family) was wonderful. A big thank you to all for making this such a special event.
Happy Hoppers will begin Square Dance lessons on Monday, September 14. Plus lessons are 6:30-7:30 pm. New dancers will dance from 7:30-9:00 pm. Lessons are also held at Washington Grange #82 in Vancouver, WA.
The club will host its first September dance on Saturday, September 5. Craig Abercrombie will be the caller and cuer for our Plus Dance with Rounds. Please plan on joining us, 7:00-9:30 pm. Air conditioning will be on, and a great time is sure to take place!
September 19 will be our Mainstream with some Plus dance and Rounds. Craig Abercrombie will help us kick up our heels while calling and cueing. We invite you to join us on first and third Saturdays and look forward to seeing many of you ... We love visitors! Our website: happy-hoppers.com
See you dancing ... Denise and Roz Buddneberg

We expect our August Club Summer Picnic to be well attended with lots of chicken and potluck dishes and a great gathering of club members and friends.
Our fourth Saturday dance on August 22 will be a Celebration of Life in recognition of Betsy Dutton. Betsy had only been a member of our club for a few years, but she became very involved and was the committee chair for our Mainstream lessons for the last two years. She was a very loved and devoted member of our club. She is greatly missed. Come and join our Celebration for Betsy! We dace at Milwaukie Community Club from 7-9:30 pm.
We have been busy planning and preparing for our lessons to start on Sunday September 20 at 3:30 pm at Milwaukie Community Club. Darrell Kalmbach will be teaching. If you know someone who wants to learn to dance and your club is not having lessons or cannot gather enough students (we know how that goes from last year), send them to River City Dancers. We will welcome them and show them the friendship of square dancing. Darrell will teach them to dance, and we will return them to your club by the end of the year ready to enjoy our style of “friendship set of music.”
See you in a square soon!

We look forward to our Birthday dance on December 5th with Lawrence Johnstone calling and Rikki Lobato cueing. It will be a lot of fun with silent auctions and of course lots of dancing!!

September 4 (1st Fri)
The fifth Saturday dances in January and July of 2027 have also been cancelled. We have elected to not compete with the Oregon State MidWinter and Summer festivals.
In addition to the TVC having quarterly meetings instead of monthly, there was a discussion about the night on which the meetings are held. Currently there is a conflict with a TVC club which has Monday as a dance night. A motion to change the meeting night was made and passed. Some research having to do with other possible conflicts of schedule will be done before determining which day to move the meeting to.
The Council highly recommends that all TVC dancers attend the anniversary dances held by other member clubs. September has two clubs celebrating anniversaries. On September 8th the Wavesteppers will hold their Anniversary dance at the Tillamook Senior Center, 316 Stillwell Avenue, Tillamook from 4:00 to 6:00; Terry Halley will be calling with Lane Clem cueing. Finish off your day at the Coast with some dancing.
On September 25th the TriSquares will celebrate their 28th Anniversary featuring callers Terry Halley & K.C. Curtis with cuer Sandra Pinion. It will be held at the Kinton Grange with Rounds at 7:00, Plus at 7:15, Mainstream and Rounds at 7:30, with 4th tip Plus. See flyer in this issue.
Since the OFN is published on the 20th of the month, you still have time to plan on attending the TVC 5th Saturday dance on August 29th. 'Dancing In The Park' will be held at Harleman Park in Cornelius featuring caller George Hermann and cuer Julie Stiers. An informal dance gathering begins with a potluck picnic from 3:30 to 4:30; please bring a dish to share. We have the park reserved beginning at 3pm. Dancing begins at 4:30 and continues until 7:00pm.

Our summer program has given some of us a little head start, as Daryl has been teaching us the moves that are transitioning from A to Plus. It is still a little confusing to me when he calls a three quarter-thru, quarter-thru, swing-thru sequence. But the challenge is there so get ready for a great fall start. We have been averaging four to five squares on a given Sunday.
The club had an outing to the Old Grist Mill in Woodland on August 22nd where we danced on the covered bridge roadway with Daryl calling. Some of us brought food and had our lunch there. This is a shout-out for the Mill. If you have a free weekend it is a great place to come and watch the volunteers work the grind wheel and explain the history of the mill.
We will be having our first September dance on the 18th, delayed as the first Friday is the start of the Labor Day weekend. Daryl will be calling and as Renee Ruud is able (she fell and broke her femur some time back) she will be cueing and harmonizing.
Just a reminder, September can be hot. As our Grange does not have air conditioning, our guide is if the temperature is above 85 degrees at 5 PM we will not be dancing. You can get on our email list and see when and where dances are going on, not just with us but with the local clubs in our area. Come to our dance and give Mary your email address.
See you in a square.

The fun continued on the second Monday with our colorful Hawaiian Day dance, featuring cool, casual island attire. However, we ran into an unexpected challenge when the power went out in the middle of our first tip, a neighborhood power outage! With no lights, no music and no way to dance, we had to call it a day. We brought Hawaiian Day back the following Monday and were more grateful than ever to be out on the dance floor.
Looking ahead to September, we'll celebrate Labor Day with a dance on the 7th with guest caller Daryl Clendenin, so if you have the holiday off, we'd love to have you join us. Later in the month, we'll gather for our annual club picnic and enjoy another opportunity to relax and spend time together.
The Eager Beavers dance Plus every Monday at the air-conditioned Aloha Grange with Darrell Kalmbach calling, and Tami Helms or Lane Clem cueing Phase II and III Rounds on alternate Mondays. For current dancing information, please see our website at https://EagerBeavers.info. (see link above).

A big Hayshaker thank-you to all three for the great calling, the laughs, and for proving that square dancers really can smile while getting their exercise!
Now, before your dancing shoes start collecting dust... Mark Wheeler returns to the mic in September, and that means it's time to recruit some new dancers!
Beginner classes start September 13th, and the first two classes are FREE!
We'll see you on the dance floor where the only thing better than the music is the company!

On July 25th, the Aloha Grange transformed into a lively frontier outpost filled with cowboy hats, boots, and plenty of western charm and looked ready for a hoedown on the open range. Michael Kious wrangled the calls with his signature energy and Randy Lewis brought his smooth cueing to the rounds, guiding dancers through each step like a seasoned trail boss. July closed out with a hearty “yee‑haw” and a whole lot of gratitude for everyone who helped make the Wild Wild West Dance such a fabulous success.
September, color, creativity, and Hoedowner fun. We’ll kick things off on September 12th with our Farmers Market Dance, a cheerful celebration of harvest season and hometown charm. Think bright fall colors, rustic touches, and the cozy feeling of strolling through a bustling market. Whether you come dressed in autumn hues or simply ready to dance, you’ll be welcomed with smiles and lively music. Michael Kious will be calling and Randy Lewis cueing, bringing all the energy needed to make the evening feel fresh, festive, and full of community spirit.
Then on September 26th, we’ll roll right into good vibes with our Don’t Worry, Be Hippie Dance. It’s a night to embrace peace, positivity, and playful retro flair. Tie‑dye, flowers, fringe, and groovy colors are all encouraged as we fill the hall with carefree fun. Michael will be calling and Randy cueing again, keeping the squares moving and the rounds flowing with that easygoing rhythm that makes this theme such a delight.
We look forward to seeing everyone on the dance floor as the Hoedowners continue making memories one tip at a time.

On July 13th, we celebrated the USA's 250th birthday with a themed dance. Dancers dressed in patriotic red, white, and blue and Mark incorporating lively patriotic music into his calls. On July 20th, the club hosted Melissa James as a guest caller. Lane Clem has served as our cuer for all of our summer dances. As of this writing, Thomas Buchheit will be our guest caller on August 10th. On August 24th, the club will also celebrate the end of summer with a picnic on the Oak Hills Recreation Patio from 5:30 to 6:30 PM, followed by dancing in the Rec Center from 6:30 to 8:30 PM.
Please note that there will be no dancing on August 31st or September 7th.
Our fall dance schedule will continue on Monday evenings from 6:30 to 8:30 PM. This will include a series of lessons running from September 21st through December 14th. Lessons will take place from 6:30 to 7:30 PM, followed by mainstream dancing from 7:30 to 8:30 PM (see attached flyer). The donation for dancing is $6.00, though club members can dance for free once during their birthday month.
Looking further ahead, the club is planning a Halloween Dance on October 26th and a Winter Solstice Dance on December 21st. For more information, visit oakhillssquares.com.

Lessons will begin on September 2nd at Catlin Center. Plus lessons at 6:30 PM and beginning lessons at 7:30. These classes will use the new format adopted by Callerlab for the Plus and Mainstream programs.
September 11th is “Red, White & Blue” dance with Craig Abercrombie calling and cueing. Our annual “Neil Diamond Tribute” dance is September 26th and Craig will also call and cue that night. It promises to be a fun dance!

• Club dance was dark on the 4th of July to enable us to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United Sates of America. God bless America!
• Our Mainstream dance on July 18th we had ice-cream sundaes at the break. We enjoyed the dancing and the sundaes.
• We have been enjoying the summer dancing this year, thanks to the air-conditioning, great caller, great cuer, and our hall.
• Our Caller Darrell Kalmbach has been teaching the new plus and mainstream calls that take effect in September. These changes are not hard, but they are new to most and dancers are trying to learn them during our dances.
September Club Activities:
• In September, the club’s Mainstream dance is on the 5th, and the Plus dances are on the 3rd, and 17th.
• The theme for the Mainstream dance on the 5thof September is “Labor Day” and to celebrate we are having root beer floats, and popcorn at the break.
• On the 3rd Saturday (September 19th) the club dance is dark so we can go to the Federation dance put on by Portland Area Council at the Abernethy Grange in Oregon City.
• Club dances are from 7:00 - 9:30 PM in Hillsboro at the Odd Fellows Hall, 167 E. Main St. We have a great dance floor, air conditioning, hearing enhancement, and an excellent dining hall. There is street parking and at the bank parking lot across the street. Besides having talented team calling and cueing, we have great cooks who furnish refreshments after the dance. What else do you need, please come and enjoy a visit with us?

Before our regular dances begin, we have two fun visitations planned in August. We’ll be visiting the Sunset Promenaders on August 15th, followed by the TVC Picnic and Dancing in the Park. Our members always enjoy these opportunities to dance with friends from other clubs. We hope to see many of you there!
Our Mainstream Lessons begin in September and continue through December for new dancers. Every member of Tri Squares is helping spread the word by inviting friends, neighbors, coworkers, and anyone curious about square dancing to come give it a try. The first two lessons are free, making it easy for prospective dancers to experience the fun, laughter, and camaraderie before deciding to enroll for the full three-month lesson series.
I hope to see you on the dance floor soon!

At this writing we are preparing to perform exhibition dances at the Tillamook County Fair. It should be fun as we will be on the Center Courtyard Stage for an 11:30 am performance.
Our anniversary dance is September 8th and will be held at the Senior Center on our regular dance night. The hall we usually use for our anniversary dance is not available.
The address of the Tillamook Senior Center is 316 Stillwell Avenue, Tillamook. Located on the corner of 4th and Stillwell there is no on site parking and little street parking. The huge Safeway parking lot is directly across the street. Our dances are held weekly on Tuesdays from 4:00 to 6:00 and we always have food and snacks.
