Square Dance Classes Season! Here is hoping that everyone who is currently holding classes is having great success. What I have heard from some of the area clubs sounds very promising. I really look forward to hearing from the Council Delegates at the mid-winter meeting, just how successful classes have been. And sharing anything that was tried and successful in getting class members. It would be great to see a nice increase in the number of new dancers.
And speaking of Mid-Winter, if you haven't yet registered for our winter festival, think about doing so soon. It promises to be a great time. And don't forget to talk it up with the new graduates.
Robert Swee, Federation President

As planning for Mid-Winter 2027 continues, I wanted to share a few of the facility changes you will see this year and the thinking behind them.
Each year, the chairperson is asked to balance many competing priorities: providing a great dance experience, managing costs responsibly, supporting our featured callers and cuers, and making the best use of the facilities available to us. There is often more than one way to accomplish those goals, and thoughtful people may reach different conclusions about the best approach.
For 2027, I have chosen to consolidate some of our activities into fewer spaces. Resale clothing will be moved into the Vendor Hall, and the Round Dance program will be located in Conference Rooms 3-4. The Advanced Square Dance program will be held at the Holiday Inn. Flooring will be installed in the Comfort Suites, Conference Room 1, Conference Rooms 3-4, and the Holiday Inn, providing a dedicated dance surface in each of those locations throughout the weekend. The Showcase of Rounds will continue to be a featured event and will be held in Hall C on Saturday evening.
These changes were made after reviewing our facility usage, available space, and overall festival expenses. My goal has been to use our facilities as efficiently as possible while continuing to provide a full and enjoyable festival experience. Every Mid-Winter chairperson brings their own priorities and perspective to the festival. For 2027, I have chosen to focus on making the best use of our available facilities while continuing to provide a strong program for both square and round dancers.
What has not changed is our commitment to providing a fun, welcoming weekend filled with great dancing, great music, and great fellowship. I appreciate the many volunteers, committee members, callers, cuers, and dancers who share ideas, feedback, and experience throughout the planning process. That variety of viewpoints helps keep Mid-Winter strong.
One question I hear frequently is, "Is there something for me at Mid-Winter?" Next month, I'll take a closer look at the dance levels and programming designed to welcome dancers across a wide range of abilities and interests.
I look forward to seeing everyone on the dance floor in January!
Brooke Davison
Mid-Winter Festival 2027 Chairwoman

One of our members, Connie Seamans, is undergoing chemo. Our thoughts and prayers are with her during this arduous journey. Connie is also taking care of her husband, Paul Gates, who has a number of medical issues and needs. Paul and Connie have square danced and round danced for many years. Paul comes to visit and misses dancing a lot. We pray Connie will be back dancing and doing her calling soon.
Happy calling and cueing,
Christina Corelli
We started October on the 4th with our usual dance to recorded tips, but as we had two squares on the floor it was even more fun. We'll hopefully have another dance on the 18th with our local caller Tim Matteson calling, and in November we hope to have three dances again on the 1st, the15th with Tim Matteson again, and one on the 29th as there are five Sundays in November.
We were all sad when our "leader", Fred Beisse, took a bad fall at the hall and broke his shoulder. He had surgery soon afterwards and is now on doing well though unable to dance just yet, but has already resumed running the program on Sundays and Thursday nights for us all. We hope he has a full and speedy recovery.
Please check our website at cas-sd.yolasite.com for our tentative schedule, but be sure to call 541-683-2522 or 458-221-3564 when you are planning to come and are not on Fred Beisse's email notification list. We dance at the Emerald Square Dance Center at 2095 Yolanda St. in Springfield in Hall B which is behind the building. It is always casual dress. Please come join us when you will be in the area.

We have learned that former Whirl-A-Ways member, Karen Baker, has passed away. Karen and her husband, Marvin, have square danced and round danced for many years. We all have many fond memories of Karen and Marvin and feel blessed to have had Karen support this awesome activity. She is missed.
The new dancer class is coming along nicely with Thomas Buchheit teaching. Please come support our new dancers on Thursday evenings at 7PM. We were all there at one time! Thanks!
The memorial for former LifeTime member of Single Trees, Vonda Clayton, will be November 7 at 2:30 at the hall in Springfield. Vonda loved to dance and is missed. Both Karen and Vonda were being cared for at memory care facilities.
We wish to thank all of the members who have been willing to take on roles as officers of our new club. You are appreciated!
Bring a smile to a square!
Christina Corelli
We dance every Sunday from 4 to 6 and encourage all dancers to join us.
Tim Matteson is our capable caller and calls from beginner through advanced levels. We make sure everyone who attends gets floor time at whatever level. We aim to please and always have a lot of goodies and camaraderie too.
Happy dancing everyone,
Christina Corelli

We discussed the new dancer/Christmas dance for the third Sunday in December and calling at the Fall Festival on Halloween. Stephanie Lozano cued some of the most recent rounds of the month, and Thomas Buchheit led a spirited workshop on dancing by definition for some moves in the zoom family. Very interesting.
Our next meeting is November 22, a week later than usual due to a new dancer dance scheduled for our regular meeting time. We will cement final arrangements for the December dance and remind all members that dues will be due in January.

The start time for the 4:00 p.m. clogging class held each Tuesday and taught by Rolita LaForge has changed to 4:30 p.m.

November will feature George Hermann calling and Judy Russell cueing on the second Saturday. It will be our honor to celebrate and thank our veterans and military families at the dance. We will not dance on November 28 because we will be snacking on Thanksgiving leftovers, traveling, watching football, or whatever.

October 3 was our Corn and Ham feed dance. Delicious food was brought by members, and it was a wonderful success with three squares on the floor.
We are hosting the first New Dancer Dance of the season, and do we have a great dance planned? Yes, we do! Just think dice, dangles, dancing, and doubles. See our flyer in the OFN.
We head to Lebanon Square Circlers for a visitation on November 21, and then we’ll start preparing for our December dances. We’ll dance December 5 as a regular dance, and then our Annual Silent Auction Benefit Christmas Square Dance will be held December 12. It will be a festive affair, and all proceeds go to the Windsor House in Salem. Windsor House is a group home for adults with brain damage.
We welcome all dancers to our dances. Our New Mainstream lessons continue.

There were 44 dancers total in attendance through the two days of dancing. The dancing was from Phase 2-6 and some workshops each day since we had two halls for our use. The available membership did the cueing and the non cuer member did the door check in.
We talked about what could be done better such as having a working coffee pot, having soda for sale, putting out the food that was brought but left in the refrigerator and shortening the dinner break. It was too long and no one locked up the building when everyone left to get something to eat.
Possible dates for 2027 were discussed and more decisions will be made at the January meeting during Mid-Winter. Need to check into available dates for renting the dance center, other events that we don’t want to intrude on and other essential needs that will arise as we make plans for 2027.

Keep our cuer in your thoughts as she manages some plantar fasciitis problems with her left foot. She is contemplating retirement from her long-time job at Wal-Mart in South Salem because she cannot stand for long periods of time. Final decision to be made near the end of the year. Time for a party!

Our annual Corn & Cluck Dance was a success. Five squares on the floor, nearly 40 wind-up chickens raced across the floor, and three racers left with gift bags of Fall goodies. The dinner was delicious, with tins of chicken and corn on and off the cob, many desserts, and salads.
October brings three dances. October 2 was filled with the many youth and young at heart of our club enjoying each other and dancing. October 16 will bring Rikki Lobato to cue for us. October 30 will be a rousing Halloween Dance with wonderful costumes and themed food dishes. November 6 & 20 will bring us Thankful Dances as we head into the Holiday Season.
See you on the Dance Floor.

Our first session of lessons is underway. We're excited for our new group of Mainstream dancers and are equally as excited for those who have chosen to take lessons for Plus dancing. Craig Abercrombie has been diligently working to keep us on track. Mainstream lessons will be completed on October 2. Students will be treated to refreshments and social time at that night’s lesson. The club encourages them to continue with their dancing and join us in the second session of Mainstream lessons from November 2 to December 21. Lessons are Mondays from 7:30 to 9:00 pm. Craig Abercrombie is our instructor.
Our Plus lessons are Mondays 6:30 to 7:30 pm with Craig keeping the Happy Hoppers ... hopping. Our 16-week session will also be completed December 21, and our club will celebrate with a New Dancer dance!

The Council highly recommends that all TVC dancers attend the anniversary dances held by other member clubs. On November 5th the Sunset Promenaders Plus club will celebrate their 12th anniversary featuring Darrell Kalmbach calling and Tami Helms cueing. Held at the Hillsboro IOOF Hall, advanced rounds will begin at 7pm with Plus and Ph II - IV rounds until 9:30, all plus dancers welcome. Cupcakes, ice cream and fellowship to follow the dance.
The next TVC event will be the New Years Eve dance at the Aloha Grange on December 31st, with Scott Zinser calling and Connie Clark cueing the evening. Dancing begins at 7pm following a 6:30pm dinner. More details next month. It is not too early to be thinking about your year end dance.

The next TVC Meeting is Monday, November 23, via Zoom at 7 p.m.

Stepping into the spot light, so to speak, will be Renee’ Ruud. She will be taking over our Sunday lessons, calling and cueing on the first Friday of each month and, occasionally doing both dances for the month. Scott Zinser has graciously agreed to be our caller for most of the “third” Friday dances (with Renee’ cueing) for our 2026-2027 dance season.
In November Renee’ will be doing our calling and cueing for both our 6th and 20th dances.
Speaking of lessons, we had 10 new dancers our first Sunday night and 13 more the second. It was a full house with 7 squares. Lots of laughter and fun.
So come on out, support our club and have a great time dancing. See you in a square.

November brings another month with five Mondays of dancing at Eager Beavers, where we typically have four to five squares. On November 9th, we will hold our annual Veterans’ Day Dance honoring all veterans, including those who served in other countries. As a way of showing our appreciation for their service, veterans dance for free. You are also welcome to join us for our Thanksgiving Dance on November 23rd. We’ll dress in fall colors and dance the day away to help make room for our turkey dinners later in the week! We finish the month with our fifth-Monday dine-out, this time at Buster’s BBQ. We hope you’ll join us for dancing, fellowship, and fun throughout the month.
The Eager Beavers dance Plus every Monday at the Aloha Grange with Darrell Kalmbach calling, and Tami Helms or Lane Clem cueing Phase II and III Rounds on alternate Mondays. For current dancing information, please see our website at https://EagerBeavers.info. (see link above).

We were especially excited to see so many young people, enough to fill a square and then some!
We’re excited to keep that momentum going! In November, we’ll continue our lessons, helping our new dancers build confidence, learn more calls, and have even more fun on the dance floor. It’s been wonderful watching everyone jump in, learn the steps, and enjoy the fun of square dancing.
The Hayshakers are stepping into fall with lots of new dancers, new energy, and plenty of happy feet!

Then on September 26th, we rolled right into good vibes with our Don’t Worry, Be Hippie Dance. Peace, positivity, and playful retro flair filled the hall as dancers embraced tie‑dye, flowers, fringe, and all things groovy. The carefree fun was unmistakable, and the room glowed with color and laughter. Michael once again delivered energetic calling, and Randy kept the rounds flowing with his easygoing rhythm, making the night feel like a joyful throwback to simpler, sunnier times.
On November 14th, the Hoedowners will jump right into seasonal fun with our Turkey Toss Dance! Expect a playful time as dancers try their hand at bean bag toss to win a turkey or Cornish game hen. The hall will be filled with rich fall colors, friendly competition, and that lighthearted energy that always makes this theme and contest a crowd favorite. Whether dancers arrive in cozy harvest hues or simply ready to laugh and enjoy the evening, the hall will be buzzing with warmth and camaraderie. Michael Kious will be calling, and Randy Lewis will be cueing, bringing the lively rhythm and good natured charm needed to make this pre‑holiday celebration feel festive from the first tip to the last.
Then on November 28th, we’ll close out the month with heart and purpose at our Charity Ball in support of Adopt a Family. This dance is all about giving back, lifting others up, and celebrating the generous spirit that defines our club. The hall will shine with elegant touches and joyful energy as dancers come together to support a meaningful cause. Michael will once again guide the squares with his upbeat calling, while Randy keeps the rounds flowing smoothly, creating an evening that blends fun, community, and goodwill in true Hoedowner fashion.

Fall lessons began on September 21st with 7 new dancers, and several more showed interest on September 28th. With both returning and new dancers, we easily filled 3 squares, with experienced dancers guiding the way as Mark Wheeler called. Lessons run from 6:30 to 8:30 PM, followed by mainstream dancing, which several new dancers stayed to watch.
As of this writing, our annual Halloween Dance is scheduled for October 26th, complete with costumes, decorations, and refreshments. No special dances are scheduled for November.

Craig Abercrombie called and cued both September dances. We had 73 dancers attend the “Neil Diamond Tribute” dance on September 26th and Craig did a wonderful job that night. It was fun to dance to Neil Diamond songs all evening!
November 13th is our annual “Honor Our Veterans” dance and all veterans get in free that night. “Count Your Blessings” is the theme of our November 28th dance and it’s a good way to exercise if you over-indulged on Thanksgiving Day! Both November dances will have Craig Abercrombie calling and Susan Healea cueing mixed level rounds. Hope to see you in a square!
