More than two squares of Rosetown Ramblers enjoyed the Portland Area Council’s fifth Friday dance on January 31. Lots of us wore red to celebrate the lunar new year!
A crack team of archaeologists scoured the PAC archives and discovered this beautiful and historic artifact. This banner appeared in public for the first time in many years at the January 31 PAC fifth Friday dance
The Portland Area Council celebrated the lunar new year with a fifth Friday dance on January 31. We welcomed eight squares, who had a blast dancing to Daryl Clendenin and Julie Stiers

We did not hold a dance in January on the 12th as we failed to muster enough dancers for a square. However, we did dance on Feb. 2 and hope to dance on the 16th from one to 3PM (change of times this month)..
We are a solid group of advanced dancers and some of us had a great time up in Albany at MWF dancing to our favorite callers and the featured caller Jaden Frido in the advanced hall. We often had to trade with the new dancer hall because our numbers grew so much we barely had room to dance. What fun we had! Thank you MWF committee for all your hard work to enable us to dance as much as our feet and legs would bear.
In March we hope to hold two dances in Hall B at eh Emerald Square Dance Center in Springfield on the 2nd and 16th, first and third Sundays. We normally dance from 1:30 to 3:30PM but will be taking a toll to see how many would prefer to go back to our old time of 1 to 3PM. Be sure to call Fred Beisse at 541-683-2522 to make sure we are dancing on any given Sunday and/or to get on his list of contacts for notification. Please come join us if you are in the area. Hall B is located behind the center at 2095 Yolanda in Springfield. We dance to recorded tips and it is always casual dress.
Keep on dancing

We only held one dance in January—our New Dancer Dance with Bruce Lowther called and his wife Judy Russell cued this dance. What a fun time. We had at least one or two newer couples join us as well as two dancers trying to bring their skills up to the mainstream level. They’ll be graduating in early February and out dancing with us soon enough. We wish them all well.
By the time this comes out we will have held our 61st Sweetheart of a Birthday Dance. We are also looking forward to our Feb. 28th dance where we will be holding our annual elections of officers for 2025-26. We will also have our Irish themed dance on March 14 with a baked potato bar (always a favorite).
Please see the calendar for a full schedule of our dances with callers and cuers. For more information about our dances and photos too go to singletrees.blogspot.com. If you have questions, please direct them to me Gaynor Hintz (541) 741-4149.

We had twelve members attend the New Year’s Eve dance in Lebanon. We even had a drink, Sparkling Grape Juice, at “midnight in Manhattan” (9:00 p.m.) for us oldsters who get sleepy about that time, but the dance went on. We had at least eight squares, lots of food, and most of all, lots of fun. Plan to attend next year.
The first dance of 2025, January 11, was a big New Dancers event. We were forced to move into the gym because of all the visitors and old timers who enjoy the energy and new ideas of newcomers. I watched in amazement at one square of four youngsters (anyone under sixty is a youngster to me), and four ghosts, so I was told, dance a tip. I felt a little shiver as I watched them dance perfectly with unseen companions. They called it “Ghosting.” We had dancers from eight different clubs, including at least thirty new dancers.
When our club attended a Lebanon Dance, I struggled with a “No Hands” square which was a competition to see how long a square could go without someone touching hands. I hate to say it, but we were the first to be eliminated. Congratulations to the winning square. I liked the challenges.
Several members enjoyed a dinner out together at Mid-Winter Festival.
Everyone is invited to our Coast Retreat March 5 - 7 and/or just come to our Friday and Saturday dances from 6:45 p.m. to 9:45 p.m. at Gleneden Beach Community Center, 110 Azalea, Gleneden Beach, OR 97388.

Our first dance in February was a two square attendance dance. There were others on the sidelines. The wheel spin and split the pot winners were all smiles when their name and number were announced.
Our own Linda Neuschwander was awarded the Randall Award during Mid-Winter Festival. The award was displayed on the Historian table during the Festival and will eventually be hung in one of the halls of the clubs she belongs to.
Eight members of our club earned MWA Ambassador bars during the New Dancer season. The club went dark for the January 11 dance so we could attend the last new dancer dance in Corvallis and support our new dancers as they earned their bars.
Our 65th birthday dance is March 9 from 2-5 p.m. Cake and ice cream will be served. We have a guest caller along with KC Curtis, and two guest cuers along with Stephanie Lozano. We will welcome Roger Putzler, Katie Marteny, and Judy Russell to the stage during the dance. The flyer is located elsewhere in the OFN. We will be dark on the second Saturday due to the dance the next day.
On March 8 is our business meeting where officers will be elected, adjustments to the P&P’s will be voted on. and more details about the Koast Krash will be discussed.

Lebanon Square Circlers celebrated 76th Birthday on February 2. Seven new members who just graduated from our Mainstream class joined us. Plus lessons started on Sunday, February 9 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Cha Cha lessons started the same day at 5:00 p.m. Sadly, we lost Bill and Jackie Gale, who recently moved out of state, but Sandra Pinion graciously stepped in to teach our Cha Cha class and cue at our dances.
We are looking forward to a busy March with our regular dances on the first and third Saturdays, as well as hosting the annual campout at Camp Koinonia March 28 and 29. And, do not miss our ever-popular Hippie dance April 5! Get out those tie-dies and beads and rock on!
If you would like more details about what Lebanon Square Circlers are up to, we encourage you to pop in to our website at www.lebanonsquarecirclers.com and we hope to see you in a square (or a potluck).!

We held a meeting during Mid-Winter and discussed plans for a round dance weekend in May. The tentative location will be the Emerald Dance Center. It will be a Friday night and all-day Saturday event. All round dancers will be welcomed for workshops, teaches, and dancing. There are two halls available and other plans are in the works.
We have a mentor program working. Some members will be able to assist new cuers and others that may need a little help with some problems that they may have. The contact person is Judy Russell and those willing to mentor will be listed in the OFN soon.

We were dark for the last two weeks of January due to Mid-Winter, and Randy being out of town at Cactus Capers in Mesa, AZ. We resumed dancing and got back into learning more Phase 4 rumba in February. Randy is not scheduled to be gone again until April.
There is lots of room in the hall for more dancers to come and join us.
Stephanie Lozano and Marilyn Schmit will be teaching Phase 2 Waltz starting on February 16 at 3:30 p.m. Hopefully some more new dancers will come and join us.

The PAC kicked off 2025 with a 5th Friday dance on January 31. Eight squares of dancers celebrated the Lunar New Year with lots of red attire and accessories to bring good luck. The Rosetown Ramblers co-hosted the dance, with 18 club members in attendance. We had representation from all the PAC clubs, and wonderful support from the Tualatin Valley Council as well. The legendary Daryl Clendenin and the marvelous Julie Stiers kept us on our toes, with smiles all around.
Our next PAC event will be the Tri-Council Dance on Saturday, May 31, at the Oak Grove Community Club, 14496 SE Cedar Ave., Oak Grove 97267.
Mark your calendars for March 5, for the Wearin’ o’ the Green. B ‘n’ Bs will be dancing up a jig at our early St Patrick’s Dance. Darrell Kalmbach will be call’n and Tammy Helms will be cue’n.
March 19 will bring Melissa James and Tami Helms to our stage. Come enjoy dancing with these two talented ladies.
No fooling…save April 2 for a BIG party. It’s B ‘n’ Bs’ Diamond (60th) Anniversary! There will be lots of fun and surprises. Darrell Kalmbach will call, and Tami Helms will cue.
We dance every 1st, 3rd, and 5th Wednesday at the Abernethy Grange, 15745 S Harley Ave. in Oregon City. Pre-rounds 7:30 PM, Mainstream 8 PM, Announcements 9:30 followed by one Plus Tip.

It was a predicted Snow-In on FEB 13th - what fun to wake on Valentines Day to a blanket of snow!
Chaps will celebrate our 50-year anniversary on February 21 with the Flintstones Dance. The March OFN is published early, so it’s not-too-late to join us with Darrel Kalmbach, as Fred, and Tami Helms attired as Betty Rubble. If you dress the ‘stone-age’ era, prizes will be awarded to a man, women and couple…"Yabba-Dabba-Doo!".
For March, on Friday, March 7, Zinser opens 7:30 pm (Pre-Plus) and Julie Stiers will cue Rounds, and on Friday, March 21, Chaps will host an ‘Open Mic Night’ beginning at 7:30pm.with Caller/Cuer MCs Thomas Buchheit (Silverton) and Katie Marteny. We look forward to the youth entertaining us - it’s their chance to shine in the Caller / Cuer spotlight and good practice for the Pacific NW Teen Square Dance Festival happening May 10-11 at Blanchet High School in Salem
Another big Chaps event will be hosted on April 4: our annual Hippie Dance at Maplewood Grange. Scott Zinser, Caller Dude, shares the stage with the Flower-Power Cuer, Mark McDonald - now that’s entertainment. Yes, we also will award one Male, Female and Couple prize to the ‘coolest’ dressed. “Hey man, that’s what’s happening!

On February 20, the Cut-Ups will be graduating a Mainstream class and inviting them to join the wonderful world of square dancing. Our able teacher, Scott Zinser, will then start a Plus class on March 6, 2025, for those who are ready to learn the next level of dancing. Lessons will be on Thursday evenings from 7:30 to 9:30 PM at the Boring Barn.

There will be more Mainstream dancing Saturday afternoon and evening, with a Plus session on Sunday, May 11th, from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM. Advanced tickets are on sale through Young or Patti, only $35 for the whole weekend! It will go up to $40 at the door or individual sessions for $12. Don’t miss this amazing dance event!

Scott Zinser will be calling, and Julie Stiers will be cueing, for 4th Saturday. Daryl Clendenin will call the 5th Saturday all Plus dance, with Julie Stiers cueing.
Don’t forget Bingo on 2nd and 4th Friday nights, starting promptly at 7 PM. Get there early to get good seating and have your cards ready to go! There will be another annual Barn Sale April 18-19, 2025. Come check it out!

The Happy Hoppers of Vancouver, Washington stayed warm dancing at Washington Grange #82 during the month of January. Our first Saturday Plus Dance and third Saturday Mainstream Dance were full of fun. Members and guests enjoyed the talents of Craig Abercrombie calling and cueing.
Many members from our club made their way to the Mid-Winter Festival in Albany, Oregon. So much dancing ... so much fun! Lots of pictures to add to our club board. Many members are eagerly planning for next year.
February’s first and third Saturday dances, Monday night lessons, and clothing sale are going "lovely."

The Ramblers 42nd anniversary dance drew throngs of dancers to Oak Grove on February 8, with up to nine squares on the floor. Sensational caller Adam Christman made his Ramblers debut, and, if you know Adam, you know that he calls a high-energy, fast-tempo dance with impressive vocals. We were so thrilled to welcome him, as well the terrific Craig Abercrombie, who brought some dancers from R Square D. Happy Hoppers and Country Cut-ups took home banners, and now the Ramblers need to put on our traveling clothes because we have some banners to win back. We are working on visitations even as I type this.
On March 8, we’ll have our annual Purple Party. We wear purple to honor International Women’s Day, and our caller will be Karla Westphal from Southern California. Karla always picks wonderful singing calls appropriate to the dance theme, so see how many purple songs you recognize!
On April 12, Terri Sherrer from Palm Springs will be calling for the Ramblers. April showers bring Terri Sherrer! We alternate SSD (which is much like Mainstream) and Plus tips from 7-9:30 at Oak Grove Community Center, 14496 SE Cedar Ave., Oak Grove.
On the heels of a successful 2024 event, we are thrilled to announce that our Scares and Squares dance weekend will be back for 2025. Dance dates are October 10-12, 2025, and we will be dancing at the Beaverton Elks Lodge again. We’ve lined up some of the world’s best callers: Vic Ceder, Darren Gallina, and Stephen Cole. We’ll be dancing from 7-10 on Friday night; 9 am to 10 pm on Saturday; and 10 am to 12:30 pm on Sunday. Over the course of the weekend, we will be offering all programs from Social Square Dance all the way through Challenge. Early bird registration is just $75 for the entire weekend. To register, print out the form on our website, rosetownramblers.com.

The January meeting was held in person on the 27th, 2024, at the Hillsboro IOOF Hall in Hillsboro. It was our annual President’s Potluck and Meeting. At that meeting TVC President Sally Duyck announced the recipient of the Tualatin Valley Council “Recognition Award”. This award is for outstanding service and special contribution to the square dance community within the TVC geographical area. The TVC Recognition Award for 2024 was presented to Ronnie & Joann Swanson. Congratulations! The next TVC meeting will be Monday, February 24 at 7 pm via Zoom.
Several of the TVC clubs participated in the 2025 Mid Winter Festival in Albany. Reports indicate a successful weekend with many new dancers experiencing a festival for the first time. Dancers from TVC clubs were featured in the Showcase of Rounds. Videos of these rounds may be viewed at the Sunset Promenaders website and clicking on the ‘Gallery’ tab.
The next Council event will be a TVC 5th Saturday Dance on March 29th. It will be held at the Aloha Grange and will feature the calling and cueing of Craig Abercrombie and Connie Clark. The format will be: 7:00 to 7:15 p.m., Rounds, 7:15 to 7:30 p.m., Plus, and 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., Mainstream with every 3rd tip Plus.
The Council highly recommends that all TVC dancers attend the anniversary dances held by other member clubs. On March 8th the Columbia River Dancers will celebrate their 10th Anniversary. The dance will be at Manor Grange, 17901 NE 72nd Ave, Battle Ground, WA featuring the calling and cueing of Adam Christman. It will begin at 7:00pm with Plus and continue at 7:30pm until 9:30pm with Mainstream and every third tip Plus.
Since the OFN is published about the 20th of the month, you still have time to plan on attending the Hoedowners 75th Anniversary on the 22nd at the Aloha Grange with Michael Kious calling and Randy Lewis cueing. Lasagna dinner at 6pm.

How time flies when you are having fun. It seems like just a few weeks ago that a group of us sat around and discussed the thought of a new club. Many folks then thought we would not last. That was ten year ago. I believe at our first or second anniversary we asked Adam Christman to come call for us. He has called for us ever since. This will happen again this year. We have moved our first Friday dance one day to Saturday, March 8th to accommodate his schedule and not break tradition. We look forward to being around a long time going forward.
We did a strong recruitment push in December that has resulted in some 18-20 new beginning dancers. Daryl Clendenin, our club caller, has been making learning fun. We have a great group of angels that stay around after our plus workshop to help and that is really made for good interactions and welcoming. Our plan is to have a new dancers dance in May so get your new dancers ready for that.
Lastly, a big thank you for a job well done at this years Winter Festival. It took a few tips to realize that “center” called with an Australian accent did not mean “sinner” or “senior”. The crowd was the biggest in years. It was good to dance with some who have not been there since Covid. Any that missed this year should plan ahead, as we have, to going down to Albany next January.

Eager Beavers’ special event for January was our Black and White Dance on the 13th. We also danced on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, and we had a pretty good turnout on the Monday after the Mid-Winter Festival. Our thanks to Connie Clark for filling in as Cuer for that dance.
March will bring five Mondays of dancing, including our St. Patrick’s Day Dance on the 17th. We hope you can join us for some great Plus dancing to our Caller Darrell Kalmbach, with Phase 2 and 3 Rounds cued by Tami Helms on the 1st, 3rd and 5th Mondays and Lane Clem on the 2nd and 4th Mondays. Our dances are temporarily starting at 1:15 due to our Plus lessons schedule.

Six Hayshakers attended the Mid-Winter Festival in Albany in January with four spending most of their time in the Plus Hall, the other two in the Mainstream Hall. Everyone had a great time and was pleased that our caller Mark Wheeler called a few Plus Festival sessions. We are looking forward to Mark calling Plus for the Hayshakers sometime in the future. We did learn that there’s A LOT more Plus to learn and are planning to drive to Portland in the near future to learn more Plus variations such as All Girls Center, Teacup Chain and Chase Left from callers there.

Hoedowners decided to welcome 2025 with open arms. The quasi panic over the new century 2000 is 25 years in the past and we're looking ahead to a great year. It will be our 75th Anniversary this year. It also can be called the semi sesquicentennial anniversary or Diamond anniversary. You know me, diamonds are a girl's best friend and I'm not sure how to pronounce semi sesquicentennial.
Our first dance of the year was held January 11th. It was the official Welcome Dance for our new caller Michael Kious. We welcomed everyone to the dance floor and had a Pizza Party at 9pm. Who can resist pizza?
Our regularly scheduled dance was on January 25th but that was mid-winter festival weekend, so we went dark. We had a good group including new dancers attend.
March will be right around the corner, so I'll remind you that on March 8th we'll be celebrating the Luck of the Irish and on March 22nd we'll dive deeply into that great American tradition March Madness! Be sure to wear the colors of your favorite for the championship.

January was a busy month for our club, with dancing resuming on January 6th after the Winter Holiday. We had many new dancers and plenty of Angels to help the Newbies learn. There is always much laughter in learning, and our members had (are having) a joyful time with prospective new members. As of my January report, The Oak Hills Club had not yet decided what dances we would attend. But as of this writing, we look forward to an annual event at the LDS recreation center where our members will socialize and teach basic square dance moves to the LDS Singles Group, as we have done in past years with great success. As of this writing, our club looks forward to attending Hoedowners' Anniversary at Aloha Grange on February 22nd.
During the month of March, we will continue with lessons for new dancers from 6:30 to 7:30, with mainstream dancing from 7:30 to 8:30. Our club is growing, and we look forward to welcoming new members when they graduate from lessons.

In January R Square D had one dance. The one dance was a Snowflake Frolic, however the snowflakes held off and the weather was good for all to attend. Craig Abercrombie was the caller and Susan Healea was the cuer. We had great music to dance to too. Many of our dancers went to the Mid-Winter Festival in Albany, Oregon.
Our spring lessons started January 8, 2025! Plus lessons begin at 6:30pm and Mainstream follows at 7:30pm. Craig Abercrombie is our instructor.

We would like to congratulate Tami Helms, our cuer, for retiring at the end of December from her school bus driving job. She is very active teaching and cueing all around our area. Congrats Tami!
After a few weeks of mainstream lessons, there were only two new dancers. The club made the decision to cancel that class and send the new dancers to lessons with the Valley Squares. That time slot will now be used for teaching Plus. Those lessons are on Sunday from 2-4 taught by Darrell Kalmbach.
Mainstream dances will be on March 1st and 15th with Darrell Kalmbach calling and Tami Helms cueing. The March 15th dance will be an Irish Fling dance with baked potatoes, lots of toppings and dessert served at break time. Put your "green" on and come join us for this fun dance!
Plus dances are on March 6th and March 20th with Darrell Kalmbach calling and Tami Helms cueing.
The highlight of January was all our dancers who joined the Mid-Winter festival. Several couples from our club can be seen on video by looking for "showcase of rounds" on our website photo gallery. It is really fun to watch. Thank you to Richard Cason for making the videos and to Ferrous for posting them on our website!

In January our lessons continued with 12 students returning for Mainstream and 8 for the Plus Refresher. January 10th we had our "Home on the Range" dance, and on the 18th we visited the Sunset Promenaders and took home a banner. January 24th we were dark for MidWinter, where three of our couples attended and Terry Halley called several times, including once with K.C. Curtis.
In March we have the two remaining Sunday lessons. Then on Friday March 14th come join us for the "Bit O' the Irish" dance, and on Friday the 28th our "Spring Fling" dance, where we collect donations for a family shelter each year. Both start at 7:00 with Rounds, 7:15 Plus, 7:30 Mainstream and Rounds, with Plus at the 4th tip. And a special New Dancer Jamboree - "I Hope You Dance!" on Sunday, March 23rd, from 3:30-5:30.
