It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Albert F. Wolf, who passed away on March 5th, 2025, at the age of 91. Born in Hillsview, South Dakota, on June 5th, 1933, to Martin and Adelheid Wolf, Albert was raised in Mt. Angel and Lake Oswego Oregon, where he graduated from Central Catholic High School in Portland in 1951.
Albert's life was marked by love, faith, and service. In 1954, he married Alcyene R. Wolf, the love of his life, whom he met while working together. Together, they built a beautiful family, and Albert was a devoted father to Lori Pyzik, Craig Wolf, Martin Wolf, Jeff Wolf, and Neil Wolf. His role as a father was one of his greatest joys, and he always strived to be a strong and providing presence in the lives of his children.
A dedicated Catholic, Albert was an active member of Christ the King Parish in Milwaukie, Oregon, where he gave his time to the church, Meals on Wheels, and St. Vincent DePaul. He had a generous spirit, sponsoring many children in Guatemala, and always sought ways to help those in need.
Albert worked as a purchasing agent for F.E. Bennett Company and was well known for his devoted work ethic and jovial sense of humor. In social settings, he loved to make people laugh, and his kindness was felt by all who knew him. He enjoyed square dancing, traveling, and playing cards, but it was his family and friends who meant the most to him. His dedication to his loved ones, his Catholic faith, and his community will be his lasting legacy.
Al was active in square dancing and the Oregon Federation, serving as the Portland Area Council's delegate to the state for 15 years with his partner, Gail Domine.
Albert is survived by his children, Lori Pyzik, Craig (Kristy), Martin, Jeff, and Neil (Audri), and grandchildren, Sara Wolf, Danielle Wolf, Noah Wolf, Nicholas Wolf, Madison Wolf, and Mia Wolf.
Albert was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Adelheid Wolf of whom had eleven children, and his beloved wife, Alcyene. He will be remembered as a man of great character, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
A Funeral Mass will be held at Christ the King Parish in Milwaukie on March 14th, 2025, at 10:30 AM, with a Rosary starting at 10:00 AM. A Celebration of Life will follow at the Monarch Hotel (Columbia Room) in Clackamas at 12:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Vincent DePaul or Unbound in his memory.
May Albert's soul rest in peace, and may his family find comfort in the many memories of a life well-lived.
Patricia A.(Patty) Coen was born March 2, 1942 in Tillamook, Oregon. She was the first child of Albert and Vera Coen. She joined three older sisters from Vera’s first marriage. She was raised in Rockaway, Oregon, until the seventh grade, when her family moved to Portland. She attended David Douglas High School, then the largest high school in the state, and graduated in 1959. That same year, she married Ted Kious, the boy next door. Their marriage was blessed with three children, Leanne, Janelle and Scott. Ted was killed in an accident while working for Southern Pacific in 1967. In 1969, Patty married John Beauchamp, a man she had known since high school. They divorced in 1983. The following year, she married George Hermann, whom she had met while bowling in a league where he worked the desk. George introduced her to square dancing and she found her two greatest loves.
Patty was introduced to round dance cueing by Joyce Buzzard and Cindy Marberry. She cued her first full dance in April 1986. From 1988 to 1991, she cueing for three clubs in the Portland area. In 1991, Patty and George were hired to cue and call for the Oaky Doaks square dance club in Oak Grove, Oregon. The following year, she was hired by George and Nancy Clark to run their square dance shop in Oregon City, where she really blossomed. She enjoyed meeting dancers, helping them find the perfect outfits, and being a clearing house for square dance information.
George and Patty left the Oaky Doaks in 2010. The following October, George was hired by the Independence Wagon Wheelers, but since the club already had a cuer, Patty became “just” a caller’s wife. In 2015, when the club decided to change cuers, Patty stepped into the role. Due to health reasons, she retired from the square dance shop in 2005 and officially retired from cueing in 2021.
Patty passed away from natural causes on March 15th, 2025. She was preceded in death by her parents, older sisters Lois, Joyce and Shirley. She is survived by her sister Sandee Norman and brothers Bill and Tom Coen. She also leaves behind her three children: Leanne (Manny) Agena, Janelle (Dale) Keithley and Scott Kious. Additionally, she is survived by six stepchildren: Lynda (John) Lovell, Michelle Ashlock, T Kaye (Mike) Davis and Scott (Stephanie), Dan (Summer), and Richard (Sabine) Hermann. Patty was blessed with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She really enjoyed all her family.
A celebration of life will be held on May 3rd at 1pm at the Wood Village Baptist Church in Wood Village. The address is 23601 NE Arata Rd.
Doris passed away peacefully on March 9, at the age of 93 in Salem, Oregon. Doris was a member of Re-Vu-N-Q and the Salem Swingin' Stars.
She loved her family, square dancing, card games, and gardening. She had a heart for helping others whether through her work at the Marion County Assessor's Office or volunteering at the South Salem Senior Center. Arrangements and full obituary are available through City View Funeral Home. Services will be March 29, at 2:00 p.m., at New Harvest Church located at 4290 Portland Rd NE, Salem, Oregon.

In April, we will have the opportunity to dance to a national caller, Terri Sherrer who called for us last year in August. We really enjoyed her sense of humor as well as her great calling so are looking forward to seeing her on April 13. We just learned that Dan Preedy will make an appearance to call for us in November so please check our calendar and set aside Sunday, Nov. 9. If you know you’ll be here for this dance, please let Fred Beisse know so he can add you to the list. We do not dance unless we have over a square and at times we are short just one or two dancers and have to cancel. This should be a really fun one as well as next month’s dance on April 13 with Terri Sherrer.
We dance most second and fourth Sundays in Hall B from 1:30 to 3:30 at 2095 Yolanda in Springfield. Please come join us. You can check out our tentative schedule at cas-sd.yolasite.com.

In April we will have two dances on the second and fourth Fridays. On April 11 K.C. Curtis will call and Dave Cooper will cue. On April 25 Bruce Lowther will call and his wife Judy Russell with cue. Both dances should be equally fun so please come join us.
Keep on dancing,
Gaynor Hintz
Please call our president, David Lajoie at 541-520-7311 to make sure we are, indeed, dancing. We rarely go dark, but it's still best to make sure.
Christina Corelli
We dance at the Emerald Dance Center which is located at 2095 Yolanda in Springfield.
At a recent meeting Jeff Dehne and his wife, Liz, attended. Jeff had had a head injury several months previously. So they hadn’t been to a meeting or danced for a while. We look forward to having them back square dancing soon. We miss them.
We are getting ready for the Life's a Dance Festival coming up in August from the 22nd to the 24th. Hunter Keller is the featured caller and Rikki Lobato the featured cuer. I wonder if Scott will call in suspenders and wearin’ a long-john tee. Of course, there is always Granny glasses and Eli Mae’s braids for the ladies.
Chaps turned 50 years young on February 21 and we’ rocked-out’ at the Flintstone Dance. We had three squares and several dressed the part - costume winners were: :Tami Helms for a beautiful ‘Betty Rubble’, Kevin of the Happy Hoppers was the wooly ‘cavemen; and our chiseled couple was Carol and Danny Williamson. The following weekend, on March 8, we hosted our annual Purple Party to honor International Women’s Day. Our caller, Karla Westphal from Southern California, picked sensational singing calls appropriate to the dance theme. This was Karla’s second appearance at the Ramblers, and she’s quickly becoming one of our most popular callers. We’ll see her again in June 2026.
On April 12, Terri Sherrer from Palm Springs will be calling for the Ramblers. April showers bring Terri Sherrer! We alternate SSD (which is much like Mainstream) and Plus tips from 7-9:30 at Oak Grove Community Center, 14496 SE Cedar Ave., Oak Grove.

Due to a schedule change; we've decided to hold our April 5th dance instead of being dark. This should be a fun dance with special guests. Chuck will be calling with some assistance from Bob Houston and rounds will be done by Cathy Houston. Bob & Cathy are traveling over from the coast, so we are hoping for a good turnout.
We are dark on 4/19 for Easter weekend but have a special Sunday Stomp with Dean and Chuck on 4/27.
Our annual Boatnik Festival is in the planning stages and it promises to be a fantastic weekend. Please be sure to pre-register for the weekend. Jet Roberts will be calling and Peter & Chama Gomez are cueing. We've also arranged the jet boat trip following the festival. Due to the races on Monday, we've changed our excursion day to Sunday afternoon for the dinner excursion. The booking number is available on the website. Going to be fun and we are excited that all of our featured staff will be joining us this year! Also, make sure you get your raffle tickets for the beautiful quilt that was donated to our festival by a dancer in Salem. It's quite stunning. Funds being raised will go to the Boatnik fund as well as a portion being donated to the Federation Youth Scholarship Fund - tickets are $5 each or 5 for $20.
We hope to see you in our area soon! Make sure to bookmark our website www.charliebrownsquares.com
Happy dancing!
We continue to meet on Wednesday nights. We continue to struggle to find a regular place to hold our "club or party nights" For now our best option is the Karuk Wellness Center. We can not stress enough how much they have been willing to work with us. The center is a very busy place, not only do they let us use part of the facility, they also have other activities, as well as being a Red Cross emergency center if needed.
We will be having a St Patrick's night "Jig" on Wednesday March 19th. We want to invite anyone who would like to come down and dance with us. This will be an EASY Mainstream /Plus dance. There will not be any rounds, or door prizes because our time slot is very limited. If you would like to join us please feel free to contact us at dnsblack5657@yahoo.com or call us at 530-842-7031 If you MAPQUEST the Karuk Wellness Center it will give you directions to the center. If you need more information feel free to call us and we will help you.
I want to say thank you to everyone who came out and supported Sherrie and me, and the Star Promenaders when we celebrated their 67th birthday. I am always very grateful for every opportunity I get to call. Thank you Star's and Rikki for a fun night.

Stay safe and healthy

Daryl has been teaching new callers over the internet and has students from all over the world. One of his local ones, Renee Ruud, has been doing so well that she has called for us when Daryl was down with a throaty cough. She has a good voice and has cued for us and others. She has recently had a mild stroke which has affected her equilibrium. Keep her in your thoughts and prayers. Her spirits are great and we look forward to having her back with us real soon.
Since this will be out just before the end of March I want to remind everyone that the Evergreen Council’s 5th Sunday Dance is being held the 31st of March at the Catlin Grange, 205 Shawnee Street in Kelso with K.C. Curtis calling and Susan Healea cueing from 1:30-4PM.

February is also the Hoedowners’ anniversary month. The club turned 75!! Whoop, whoop! Do you remember 1950? What was the number one song that year? Anyone? It was “Goodnight Irene” by the Weavers. Second was “Mona Lisa” by Nat King Cole. Don’t forget that Elvis was just around the corner.
How about the most popular movie? Walt Disney’s “Cinderella” followed by “King Solomon’s Mines”, “Father of the Bride”, and “All About Eve”. The 50’s were also known as the “Square Dance Boom”. What were folks eating? Tuna casserole, Chicken a la King, and meat loaf were definite menu choices plus mashed potatoes and bread laden with butter.
For entertainment in 1950 people were buying their first televisions and taking up Square Dancing as was an intrepid group in Washington County, Oregon forming the Hillsboro Hoedown. As the 75 years have passed, the club realized it as reaching out to more and more of the area and became just the Hoedowners. Over the past 75 years, the Hoedowners have introduced hundreds of new dancers to this timeless dance style.
On February 22nd, we partied to celebrate our 75th anniversary and invited Hoedowners from the past and present. It was wonderful to see so many familiar faces. Pat Wolter arranged for all our retired callers and their spouses to receive boutonnieres and corsages of red roses to match the beautiful bouquet of red roses on the buffet table. We served lasagna, bread, and salad for dinner with a huge punch bowl of Hoedowner red punch and cake for dessert. It was a great evening for visiting. The dance floor was full and it was another memorable Hoedowner evening.
We’re planning to continue the fun in April on the 12th with our first ever Camping theme. Anyone want to bet that we won’t be eating Smores? April 26th calls for a “Fiesta” and all those treats we come to love.
Come dance with us, you won’t regret it!

The Hoedowners Club in Aloha celebrated their anniversary dance on February 22nd, and, although we did not take home the banner for most attendees, we did have enough dancers to form a square and celebrate with them. Happy Anniversary, Hoedowners!
Our club has grown, with several couples taking lessons during the first quarter and some others coming to dance with us for practice as they take lessons at Aloha Grange. We welcome dancers from all clubs and have consistently seen 3+ squares.
As of this writing, our own students, Nathaniel and Julie, will graduate March 10th and will be new members to our club at the publication of this article. At this graduation dance, we have Mark Wheeler calling and Lane Clem cueing for round dancing. Congratulations Nathaniel and Julie!
An all-call for the new Oak Hills Squares Board was posted, and we hope to see some new talent step up to fill some of the positions held by several members for four years. I hope to have a report of some new officers for the next newsletter.
Lynne Fonner

Plus lessons are being taught by Darrell Kalmbach on Sundays from 2-4. We have 18 students, which is fantastic ... We just need a lot of angels to help. If you know Plus and would like to help, there is no charge for you. Please join us! Please note... We will not have class on Easter Sunday, April 20th.
In February, we were busy with club visits. We visited the Cherry Pie dance at the Valley Squares on February 7th. We had a full square of Promenaders! 6 Promenaders attended the Mardi Gras dance with the Tri Squares on February 28th.
We are working on club officer nominations and planning our annual club campout for September.

The address of the Tillamook Senior Center is 316 Stillwell Avenue, Tillamook. Located on the corner of 4th and Stillwell there is no on site parking and little street parking. The huge Safeway parking lot is directly across the street. Our dances are held weekly on Tuesdays from 4:00 to 6:00 and we always have food and snacks.
